The Star has changed hands again, now run by Sally, Andrew and their son, Jack. The welcome is warm and genuine
Although limited to Mcmullens beers, the quality has improved significantly (AK and Country) with a guest being Bard (haven't tried it) and prices remain reasonable (£3.25 for AK).
The food is also very reasonable, with main courses starting at about £4.75 and it's all fresh, home cooked produce.
The pub (and kitchen) is now open daily from 12 am until late evening (not sure about final closing times, but it is about 11.30).
PS - it isn't my pub, but it is my local! Give a try

Only had McMullens Country Bitter and AK but no guest ale on which was a bit disappointing. Pub hasn't changed much in years. Have tried the food but that was many moons ago so can't really comment.

Just a quick note to say that the pb is now closed all day MONDAY's until the end of March

Always made to feel welcome with a nice friendly atmosphere, Food was expensive, but now seems to reflect the real world. Beer! Well! The real Ales are always good and go down well. Amazing how the few complain! Yet never there to support anything! I wonder why? Well done to Judith for all she has achieved. Keep it up Judith you cant please them all. Smile X

Lovely pub with excellent service, good real ale and decent food,(we only had sandwiches).
|
Pleased to say that the pub has now been taken over by a local lady (Judith) who knows and appreciates the local customers. Hopefully this means that the quality of beers and service will be fully restored - early signs are excellent, with a warm welcome and a lively vibe.
Now open from midday until 11pm every day.

I came across this pub after picking up a friend at Luton Airport. He was trying to direct me to a pub for a decent pint (they don't sell them in Spain) and a bite to eat before we hit the A1 northbound. The pub is situated in an extremely pleasant village location that feels 100 miles from Luton! They have two McMullens ales on and a guest. I had a pint of Country Bitter and my friend tried all three! All were well kept and presented. They also have a good selection of food. My friend had the home made burger and says it was the best he has had in years. I tried the sausage and mash which was also excellent. Friendly staff as well. They also do afternoon tea so you can take your maiden aunt along as well.

Now under new management (wef 18 May 2010) and first impressions bode well for the future. A nice atmoshere has been created and the beer is good. Still finding their feet a bit (as you might expect).
Good luck to Betty and her team

Dropped in for a swift pint. Am not normally a fan of McMullens but the pint of Googly was eminently drinkable. Good to see a pub retaining three distinct sections. Barstaff were friendly in a genuine kind of way. A nice village local though it isn't the easiest of places to access if you don't have a car.

Popped in for my first visit yesterday. Very smart traditional pub. Landlord was very friendly. The beer was McMullens AK, Cask and a guest. Shame that the Cask and Guest went off but the AK was lovely.
Nice grassy outside and seats to sit on. Everyone there seemed very friendly and I will definitely be going back. I never tried any food but wish I had as it looked really nice.

Located in a picturesque hamlet, this is a traditional rural pub which, unusually these days, still maintains three separate public rooms. In addition there is outside seating with tables on a large grassy area. A wide range of home made meals and sandwiches is served in the comfortable lounge, and hand -pumped McMullen's ales, AK, Cask and the regular 'special', are well kept by the friendly, welcoming landlord. A pleasant buzz of conversation from a good mix of customers ranging from local farmers to business people provides a relaxing ambience. Horse riders are not forgotten and their mounts have their own drinking trough, helping to make this is an archetypal country pub.

Traditional english country pub, great country surroundings, friendly staff and the best sunday roast me and my family have had in ages. worth the drive anytime you want a good traditional country meal. We will be back.
|
This place has been totally transformed since my last visit. Seems to have new landlords that have turned this place for the better. Had a fantastic meal here, you could see that everything that we had ordered was home made from scratch (a rarity these day). Well kept McMullens ales plus a large wine selction. Well worth a drive out, looking forward to returning.

Still a great pub - the beer and food are excellent (the food is possibly of an even higher standard than previously) and the staff are helpful and friendly. Might get a little "raucous" on occasion, but it's all light hearted and harmless.
|
Now under new management (with effect from 30 May) Hopefully, the previous high standards will be maintained.

A real traditional country/village pub(one of the few left). The beer is always excellent and the food is good value.
Nick and Bernie are always welcoming and helpful.
Well worth a visit

Thought it about time someone wrote an up to date review of the Bright Stat at Peters' Green, Near Luton. Our family and friends have enjoyed many a drink at this pub along with food too! Have ALWAYS had a great time, great food and Bernie and Nick the licencees always offer a very warm welcome whether you you're a local or a visitor from outside the village!
|
Who cares if the food is only average, this is a fantastic village pub which can not be faulted for location or feel of the place.
|
Very appealing quaint English village pub, tucked away so thoroughly you might forget that its just a mile or so from the end of Luton Airport runway. Friendly enough... though they made such a show of goodbyes whenever one of the locals left that the silence when my girlfriend and I departed was almost deafening. Something must have told them we were from Luton. It was probably my scarf.
|
A really lovely typical English country pub. However, don't eat here! The food is awful! We went on a Friday lunch time, and everything was microwaved, not even hot all the way through, in fact, stone cold in the middle. The beer is good though, and the staff are really professional.

Its a lovely old country pub, set in the mi9ddle of no where, beautiful surroundings, looks lovely in the summer with a postive vibe and pleasant atmosphere.
