Lion and Lamb, Newcastleback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Another busy and welcoming Northumberland pub with a nice garden at the rear. There are multiple rooms and some are more focused towards dining. 3 ales were on - Black Sheep Best Bitter, Caledonian Deuchars IPA & Big Lamp Bitter. The latter was not in the best of condition.

Thought we would call in after a long walk. The place was very full and so obviously popular. We were asked if we wanted food, when we replied that we didn't, we got a response of "Just as well we finished serving at three". Why ask us then? I ordered a pint of one of the hand pull ales and a dry white wine spritzer for my wife. The price; an incredible �7.30, the most I have ever paid for this combination of drinks anywhere, including London. Add to this the attitude of indifference for the barman/landlord, I think I can safely say I've made my last visit to the Lion and Lamb

My wife and I used to visit The Lion and the Lamb regularly, but on the last two occasions - now late 2009 - we have been very disappointed. First of all, the Manager, Mr Tony Milne, has little, nay no, charisma, and can be surly at the best of times. Should you transgress, as I did, by accidentally spilling some of my beer on a very wobbly table he became extremely grumpy and pointedly moved us to another table and while mopping-up exaggerated and made an issue the inconvenience we had caused, embarrassing us greatly. Whilst I did not expect it, I had noted that in other pubs when customers accidentally spilt some beer, even without a wobbly table, the bar staff would replenish that drink as a measure of goodwill. Not a bit of it with our Mr Milne; I had to buy another drink.
We got over that and did go back again. This time, our last visit, with guests from USA, we found the food standard to have deteriorated even more than on our previous visit and the cost far too high for what we got.
We have now renamed The Lion and the Lamb as "The Arm and the Leg" in recognition of its over-priced food served under the gimlet eye of a charisma-lacking, unfriendly Manager. Why on earth did he ever wish to run a pub/restaurant?
Like a previous poster, we now go to The Battlesteads Hotel in Wark or slightly farther afield, The Bay Horse Inn in West Woodburn where we are made to feel most welcome and the food is excellent at a reasonable price.
The Lion and the Lamb will, I predict lose more and more of its diners!

this is not ALL wheelchair access, only the bar area is. The restaurant is up 3 steps which according to the manager is 'wheelchair accessible' but the staff would help carry the wheelchair up the stairs - I think not! I would never visit this place again, we've been over charged on two occasions already and the manager is very rude to say the least and we were seen as an inconvenience.

Had been happy with this place until a visit on band holiday monday, which was diabolical. I emailed the managed anthony milne to tell him how disappointed we were and his reply was a brush off saying they were very busy on bank holidays thats why we got rotten service, grumpy staff and lumpy custard which when we complained about , was told by the waitress she could take it away and stir it to get rid of the lumps!!!!! never again, stay clear go to the battlesteads pub in wark instead, really friendly staff, beautiful setting and gorgeous food. I think the lion and lamb has let itself down, and we have recommended our friends and family do not go near again, could have been avoided if manager had had a better temperament.
