Had a cracking pint at lunchtime today (Tuesday the 20th of March), but alas I can't recall what it was. Very impressed though because I had the first pint of the day after they were closed on Monday, the bloke after me had a different beer to mine and that looked crystal clear too. The food was lovely and well served, although it was the Landlord who served me. Overall, well worth seeking out.

Unfortunately we had a real problem with the service here and it ruined our meal which was to celebrate a 64th birthday. The waitress who I believe to be the landlady is very rude and unaccommodating and has no idea about her job - serving people. If you do eat here, beware of asking for extra condiments as this will be enough to set her off and ruin your meal. Unfortunately the landlord does not have control of the situation so asking him for help is not an option. The menu is very overpriced and not that great - god knows how it sneaked into the good food guide. My advice is that you are better off at home than spending your money here.

Very disappointing. Food was fine but service was terrible. We had to wait ages and were treated by a very surly lady who seemed annoyed that we hadn't all arrived at the appointed time ...they only had one other table wanting food! Sold out of several dishes. Cant' understand why this was rated as a top gastropub by the Times...definitely not!

Still friendly, this used to be a good real ale pub. Although it still has beer engines, the ale is actually dispensed with high pressure CO2 through a single turn tap with a tight sparkler. I doubt that The Plough will remain in the CAMRA guide much longer - sad.

June 2009 - Sad previous comment, we have had no problems with our meals. Small beer festival from local breweries a couple of weeks ago was excellent. The landlord is a true enthusiast and always has some good guest beers.

Beer OK, food OK, service hugely disappointing, hasn't improved in the two years since our last visit, when having waited a long, long time were told they had run out of one dish. More waiting. Sorry would have been nice. Or a smile. Instead as we were leaving the landlord held out his hand for the additional cost of the substitute meal, a quid. Dunno why we went back, won't be making that mistake again.

Absolute gem of a pub! have been to this pub on a bout 3 or 4 occasions now, those stretching over about 2 or 3 years, but haven't been back for about a year now but hope to in May 2009. This is everything you could wish for in a village pub, Thatch roof, real ale from barrels behind the bar aswell as on handpull, decent food at reasonable prices cooked i understand by the lnadlords wife and sometimes himself, and best of all the the friendly nature of the place, Trevor and his staff do fantastically well and he doesn't mind the odd lock in if you're having a good time! on at least two occasions i have still been in the bar playing cards or just chatting with the locals and it's been 1am, on one occasion Trevor even gave us a lift back to our hotel which was in East Hanney so we could get changed and then get back to the Plough ASAP!!! The Ale is always on good form but it was strange that this pub missed being in the Good Beer Guide for at least 2 years, however it is deservedly back in for 2009 and long may it continue! i can't wait to go back.
On one more note, as an outsider and not a local as i come from Plymouth in Devon it was nice after a year when i walked back in i was greated by "Hello Ryan what brings you back here?" it made me feel like i just walked into my local after a few months away, what a way to treat your patrons, the way Trevor is is like the rest of the place, WELCOMING!! 10/10

Lovely beer. Food home cooked and reasonably priced. Very accommodating to large party booked in advance - roasting chestnuts in front of the fire was a nice touch.
