Thomas A Becket, Worthingback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
We (a group of 4) tried to like this place but generally we all had a disappointing evening. The refurb has worked well so far as decor is concerned, but the food just isn't that good. The menu tries to be adventurous, but it seems that the chefs just don't know how to make the menu work. A couple of example are below.
I had a Steak and Ale pie that is obviously a standard for this chain, but it only had 4 small bits of meat in, one of which was gristle and about 12 large bits of carrot. It had no flavour at all.
Someone else in the group had a poached Rhubarb based desert but the chef clearly didn't know how to cook rhubarb as it was uncuttable and inedible.
The manageress who helped served us was very helpful but the waitress who helped was quite grumpy.
We did mention the problems as we went along but no-one was really interested and no recompense was offered.
We wont be going back.

The new refurb works well for me.
I use other local pubs for footy and chat etc, but this is good to unwind. It's never been busy in the bar areas when I've been, but that's been the appeal to me.
I like reading their newspapers and using their WiFi etc and the one time I did eat, I had no issues with the food or service.
My only gripe would be the prices on beers etc and food.
I never used it before, but that was my choice and good luck to Fullers with this pub.

I love what's been done to the Becket, it's really inviting, relaxing and very female friendly. I took the girls here as I wanted to have a nose. We ended up all having a meal in the restaurant. It's very rare to find somewhere that cooks everything from fresh. We will definately come again and will recomend to friends. We were served by a really welcoming and chatty waiter from Portugal, called Jorge. Good Luck with it all and I'll see you soon.

Wow what a transformation...I lived in Tarring a few years back and would never have stepped foot in the Beckett before it was that bad we used to drink in the Downview instead. Went in last week(after a recommendation) and could't believe my eyes beautiful decor, nice atmosphere and you can finally get a nice meal at a reasonable price. Clearly under new management with high standards.....Worthing has enough 'boozers' for sports and music about time it had somewhere more refined for a pleasant experience...will deffinatley be back with friends...Great work 10/10 and good luck.

I've spoken to a lot of people and here are their views:-
1) Prices much too high for drink and food. I know the refurbishment has to be paid for but it will take a long time to recoup unless the prices are reduced. 2) Not a place to relax and chill with your mates. The atmosphere is strangely cold and uninviting despite the "up market" decor. 3) The wrong sort of pub for that area. 4) No sport tv or live bands. This is a MUST if a pub wants to get the punters in. I saw the old place PACKED when there was a big game or band playing.
Overall, our opinions are that a great pub has been replaced with something that is not fitting for the area. It's not a place I can see becoming popular unfortunately.

Refurb has made this pub awful......Sorry Fuller's but how did you get this SO SO wrong?!?! An area like Beckett's has no need for an upmarket Gastropub, it did what it did incredibly well before, all you've done is alienated the "regular" custom.

Keep watching folks! It's a change to hear of a pub having money spent on it. Fullers plans to invest 500,000. A planning application has just been lodged with Worthing Borough Council. If approved, it will mean the pub closing for about three weeks while the work takes place, with an anticipated re-opening in time for Easter. Instead of just one long bar-room, the refurbished interior will boast a separate restaurant, lounge bar, snug, and a saloon bar. (Info from The Morning Advertiser)

Lucky enough to have found this pub this afternoon after a long morning at work!!! Well kept beer, fantastic smoking area (clean too which is a rarity!) and friendly staff. Will definately be back for more!

Have used this venue for several on and off. Always found it friendly, clean and good service. It has a well lit and well furnished function room at the back which connects to the main bar. The parking area is well placed. We decided to have our 40th Wedding Anniversary there We could not have chosen a better venue. I have rate the Staff and service 120%+++. The well prepared food was exceptional and presented beautifully. Thank you Ryan and staff for a wonderful evening. John

Revisited 26 Jan, far better than expected. 4 real ales in perfect condition - yes, I tried them all ! Food, we had an evening meal and it was superb. (They are also noticeably proud of getting an ex military chef). Amenities, heated smokers area with a massive television showing just about anything you can (legally and morally) imagine. Custom, mixed, all age groups, well behaved and friendly. Prices, now very competitive. Overall, marvelous improvements compared to our first visit. ps, I've found the car park ! 8/10
