Anchor Inn, Great Barfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Anchor has a lovely location, next to the village church and overlooking the River Great Ouse and a fabulous stone bridge. The river was very high yesterday and a few concerned local residents were watching it closely from the pub. Otherwise the pub was fairly quiet. Ales were Youngs Bitter, Wells Eagle IPA & Batemans Hooker. The surroundings are pleasant and I'd imagine they do a good business in food here. Although nobody was eating late afternoon on Saturday. Worth a visit.

Our experience was not so favourable. We found the whole evening extremely expensive and were overcharged at the end. The soup was superb - full marks here. My daughter and I had the chicken korma. You could smell it when you entered the pub so loving curry we ordered it. Unfortunately there was little taste. Lots of meat but my wife tried it as well and agreed with us. There are very few non-indian chefs that can do a good curry and sadly this is true here. The chicken was spicey but it certainly wasn't korma. My wife had the salmon - again in a sauce that was runny and had little taste. The beer appeared to be from a choice of two - Courage Best and Youngs. This was at least 3 a pint but tasted fine. Then I got the bill - 70+. Drinks 21.70 for 3 pints and a coke. How can this be? Queried this at the bar and some other drinks had crept in from another table. This was gladly removed. However, it added insult to injury when compared to the food experience. The pubs we visit on our breaks are thoroughly researched before visiting especially when travelling over 70 miles in this case. I've had 2 days to think about this and frankly we wish we hadn't bothered. Sorry.

Three real ales available,Youngs bitter always on and two guests.Rather surprised to see the uninspiring Courage Best as a guest but Rams Revenge from Clark's was excellent, crisp, poured correctly and showed that the landlord cared for his beers.Well worth 3.The pub overlooks the moorings on the River Ouse, and there are seats outside while inside to the left the tables are set up for food,to the right by the bar you can drink there quite happily.Didnt try the food ,although most customers do visit the pub to eat.Friendly atmosphere in an attractive location.

Nice location by a river, very posh, more for an older crowd, drinks fairly expensive, very quiet pub, but probably lively in the evenings.

Beautiful view from the pub(especially in the summer) of river and bridge. Quiet inside - no mobile 'phones rule to stop annoyances! Nice home-made food. Friendly Landlord and Staff. Guest ales change regularly, lagers less frequently. No beer garden as such - unless you cross country road to sit by the river.
