Smashing pub. Theakstons and I would say the pint of the whole Inn Way - a weeks walking through the dales, stopping at 26 pubs over 6 days :-)

Lovely staff - great food - XB recommended.

Great stop if your on the Dalesway walk, Friendly helpful landlord serving a good range of ales. TV in second bar but does not bother you in the rest of the house.

My partner and I had sunday lunch here today after a 3 hours walk up Buckden Pike and from entering to leaving 1 hour later it was a most pleasing experience. A warm welcome at the bar was complemented by friendly and efficient service at the table. The bar is very well stocked with a range of real ales. A couple of Theakston's on tap, including Cooper's Butt of which I had a pint. Very good it was, too. Others that I remember were two from Caledonian Brewery and Deuchars IPA. I'm sure there was at least one more but can't recall what. The Sunday roast was delicious and plentiful, including TWO big Yorkshires, a mix of beef, pork & ham and some of the tastiest veg I've ever had. There's a BIG screen TV where a chap was watching the Spurs/Arsenal game, but it is in a separate room (looked very comfortably furnished) and so doesn't intrude on those who prefer a more traditional pub experience. Clearly, this place has been completely turned around since the new proprietors moved in last summer. We shall certainly be back before too long.

Popped in for a pint as part of a long walk on a Saturday evening in March 2012.
Looks picture-postcard-perfect on the outside, overlooking a small green - but it turned out to be thoroughly depressing on the inside. Fake wood-panneling from the 1970's, artex-ed walls, TV in the middle of the bar blaring out the Weakest Link, no fire lit despite it blowing a gale outside. Gents toilet out-of-order because the bulb was bust. No food being served.
Had an alright pint of Timothy Taylor, to be fair. But the whole place had a feeling that it was on its arse and no one could be bothered to try and resucitate it.

Called on Saturday 30th July-the day after reopening-they had run out of real ale!
Large blackboard menu, but they weren't doing food.
It might have been more sensible if they had got their act together before opening rather than launching at "half cock" and putting people off.

Pub reopened yesterday with new tenants who are putting serious efforts into turning the place around from its poor recent performance. Good atmosphere on the first night with Jennings and Buck Inn Ale. Looking good for the future.

My blog from May 2010 sums up this pub

The Buck Inn was old fashioned and as we quickly discovered quite gloomy in atmosphere. Tim ordered a truly impressive meat pie that you could have lined a mud hut with, Iain a chicken chasseur and me a lambs liver, bacon and mash in a rich gravy. Id washed it down initially with a very wishy-washy dark mild from Timothy Taylor (back to drawing board with that one I feel!) a Riggwelter from Black Sheep, then Malastang and just to compound the bloated dark bitter choices, a Marstons Oyster Stout. The staff were exceptionally quiet and went about their business in a rather subdued manner as 1950s and 1960s music played softly in the background. It felt like a bit of a timewarp quite frankly.

According to the note on the door this place closed on 22nd July.
The word is that the landlord has done a runner!
Hopefully, someone competent will acquire it and bring it back to the standard of years gone by.
The location is fantastic.

this used to have a great reputation but sadly it's gone down hill, the beer is fine the food is awful.

I enjoyed my visit. My beer was good, it was warm and comfortable in November, and the landlord (from London and retired) was pleasantly chatty. Recommended, though not the cheapest pub in the pack!!

A lovely little pub. The staff really put the effort in with wonderful general chat, and helpful information (the gentlman serving the food even put a bow-tie on specially).

At the time of writig they are unable to offer anything other than bottled beerss, owing to problems with the cellar. Even so, they still manage to offer a range of good real ales.

Ample parking space available, and surrounded by breathtaking mountains.
