After walking in the Luxulyan Valley, we sat in the small beer garden at the back of the pub as the Sunday afternoon drinkers at the roadside tables were just a little boisterous...I think I had a Proper Job but it must only have been average as it hasn't stuck in my mind!

My wife and I went in for a meal and a drink before walking along the Luxulyan Valley last weekend. Excellent beer and food in a welcoming pub. Very friendly landlord and staff, a real delight to experience. This is everything a good local pub should be, providing good food and drink and serving the community. I just wish it was closer to home!

we really enjoy this pub,we have just got back from herodsfoot about 15 miles away but with the friendly welcome and good food it is well worth the trip.we did this 6 days of our stay.we find a lot of pubs in cornwall disapointing with poor ale, food and sevice what a refreshing change from keith the landlord, his wife and team.the locals also make us very much at home as they recognise us from other years when we have travellled similar distances eg lansalloss, fowey and polperro.a big thumbs up from the whole family

A clean friendly pub with a lovely atmosphere catering for all ages.
Excellent range of food and good value for money. The friendly hosts have registered the premises online to allow motorhomes to park in the car park, if you use the pub.

Just a quick overview, we have been visiting this pub for a few years now and the difference since the current landlord took over in September 2010 is amazing. To keep things in perspective this a local village pub that does food.

Firstly as a pub it stocks St. Austell ales and most of the other usual suspects Carlsberg, Guinness, Strongbow etc plus Cornish Rattler Cider. I can honestly say we have never had a bad pint here they are looked after perfectly.

Secondly as a place to eat, it is excellent, the food which is cooked to order has real homemade dishes on the menu. A good menu which should cater for most people as well as the specials. We tried quite a few on the menu over a week and never had a less than brilliant meal.

Friendly locals make this a real gem of a place to eat and drink.

The big questions about any pub are would you return? Yes we plan to.
Would you recommend it? Yes have recommended it to my parents and the rest of my family. It is the only place we have eaten more than once in the whole area and plan to again. My only complaint is I have had to leave and come home but am genuinely looking forward to returning (just not the drive).

Called in for an evening meal, lots of people enjoying the food and landloards banter. Food was stunning, home cooked and interesting. Although only St Austell ales the HSD is the best I have had.
We will be eating here on a regular basis.

New owners from last September, food and beer improved, the pub now has a very happy atmosphere, with lots of locals to chat to.

Not as nice as some of the other Cornish village pubs we tried. We were greeted by a burning smell as we entered. So we decided not to eat here. The 3 real ales were all from St Austell - Tribute, Tinners and HSD. There was nothing in particular we disliked about this pub. But neither was there anything to make it stand out.

I think it's a great place. We were there at 8.15am on Sunday morning and the pub was closed of course. But the owner noticed us and let us in, we got coffee and hot chocolate. We had spent the night in the car so it was great to have a hot drink in the morning. Thanks again, this is the real hospitality!

jules44, i work in the kings arms in luxulyan, and i can tell you why you didnt get a pasty at 12.15 am on a saturday morning..........and thats because that is past closing time! The bar staff stock the bar and the kitchen staff stock the kitchen! get your facts straight!

Ghastly platic pub and no pasties available at 12.15am on a Saturday morning. The bar staff spent three quarters of an hour stocking the shelves instead of the kitchen. Customers nearby were presented with plates of the palest uncooked chips I've ever seen. After one regular fed the pub dog, despite notices asking customers not to, we left.
