Pleasant pub and the staff seemed OK. We had a quick pint on Sunday and came back last night for a meal. Decent pub grub at reasonable prices. Enjoyable.

I don't know what Joohno's problem is, but as this is the only pub he's bothered to review I don't think we need to take him too seriously. His "experience" was quite the opposite of mine, and it would seem most other posters on here.
A traditional old whitewashed stone walled pub just outside Stony Stratford. There are two buildings off of the car park, one is the main pub and the other is a small B&B operation. The pub has a few wooden benches out at the front which looks a pleasant enough spot and this was enhanced on a recent visit by the Christmas lights draped around the eaves. There also looks to be a good sized beer garden out the back.
Inside it�s a single, L-shape room, with carpeted flooring and a mixture of cream paintwork and wood panelling painted in a pleasant shade of green. There were a few black beams on the ceiling, and these were also adorned with fairly lights and a number of small black and white photos. A plasma screen was at either end of the �L�, both showing a football match, although the volume was down and this did not seem intrusive. A couple of stone fire-places were either side at the front, and these were both stacked full of logs although not in use which would have been a nice touch on a cold December evening. A dart board was in one corner, although this didn�t look as though it had much use with tables and leather arm chairs right in front of it.
Seating was mostly conventional tables and chairs, with a few bar stools dotted around and some fabric covered bench seating around the perimeter. Staff all seemed friendly and helpful. I don�t know when it was refurbished, but looking at a photo montage on the wall showing the pub with garish maroon paint on the walls and orange carpet, it seems to be a great improvement. The food offering was a decent enough �pub grub� menu, with most of the dishes being around the �8 mark. There was also a small specials board, and what we had was decent food and good value.
Although there were four pumps on the bar, only two were in use dispensing Doom Bar and Old Speckled Hen. Ciders were Stowford Press and a very pleasant Old Rosie.

A very pleasant pub for a drink and a chat - definitely no sweary yobbos in here ! Appears to have succumbed to the modern trend of "Any beer you like so long as it's Doom Bar" but that's still better than the choice in Greene King or Charles Wells pubs, of which there are many locally.

In one word, SHOCKING. We have been going to this pub on and off for a number of years for food and drink but am completely disgusted with the landlords attitude, the poor quality beer and poor state of the d�cor etc. As well as all of this, it is worth pointing out that this pub is NOT family friendly, so if you are looking for a nice pub to have a drink with your family, DON�T go to the Shoulder of mutton in Calverton, Milton Keynes.

Myself and three friends have just stayed at The Shoulder of Mutton and had an excellent time. I was a little concerned, having seen some terrible reviews of this establishment,, which I think were posted before the current landlord and landlady (Chris and Elaine) took over. The pub, in a very nice rural setting, was very clean, neat and tidy. They have redecorated giving it a much lighter, more airy feel. The food was superb, but it is not especially a "foody" pub. There is no specifically put-aside area for dining, but there is room. Whilst not having a wide range of Real Ale, they did serve up a very palatable Doombar and Hobgoblin! The accomodation, in a separate building (barn conversion?) was quite acceptable and again was kept very clean and fresh. Overall, we had a great time at this very friendly pub (Thank You Chris and Elaine!) and would heartily recommend it. We ar looking for a good excuse to go back!!

Calverton - and Milton Keynes are both in Buckinghamshire, so don't get lost getting here!
Nice airy well laid out rural pub. A good range of beers, and fast service for the pleasant food. I wouldn't call it friendly, but it was an ok dinner out.

I have been very encouraged by how vastly the Shoulder of Mutton has improved recently. The decor has been transformed from a dirty, stuffy out of date pub to a fresh and welcoming place where I have spent many an enjoyable night recently. I've found the new owners very friendly and professional. Food is homecooked and tasty. It can get very busy on weekends, so suggest booking.

What a terrible place- The Husband and Wife owners were so rude and dismissive- will never recommend anyone to go there.
GET OUT! Such a bad place, so very rude. And unprofessional.
The owner needs social skills and Anger Management! WHAT A TERRIBLE PLACE!

Pleasant country pub with range of ales including Timothy Taylors Landlord and Deuchers IPA when we called.
Noticed fiddle player but barely heard any music from him although this meant easiest access to the loos was to leave the pub and re-enter from side door.

Hidden away in Calverton, is this gem overlooking the Bucks Countryside. Can be prone to have strange live music nights involving some musician with a fiddle, but is worth going for a relaxed session.

Good village pub - roaring fire in winter. Food ranges from cheap basket meals to top notch restaurant fayre. At least 5 real ales available and some lagers.
