Reasonably busy on a Saturday in the middle of winter outside the tourist and boating season. Smart, clean and tidy inside - with the large car park and riverside gardens ready for the summer. Usual Greene King offerings - so I tried the Fireside Ruby bitter which is new one on me and a pleasant change from their usual beers. I would grade the food as 'average' - nothing exceptional and nothing wrong - but at higher than average prices.

Newbridge is an utterly glorious location - a fourteenth century bridge surrounded by gorgeous meadows - but it is wasted on those jokers from Bury St. Edmunds and their Simply Red and Lighthouse Family on the sound system tendencies. The food was passable and the service friendly while Dr. Hexter's Healer was a good choice as a guest ale but this could be so much better.

Although this pub has a lovely setting, the service is something else completely. We stopped for lunch whilst on our boat trip up the Thames. It was a lovely day so quite busy. Because of this, we weren't surprised that it was going to take 30 mins for our food to arrive. My partner decided to go back to the boat for something thinking that he had time. He was gone approximately 5 minutes when our food arrived. Needless to say, when he got back, it was stone cold.
On the way back down the Thames we decided to give it another try. We went in for dinner this time and ordered 2 Steaks. We were asked how we liked them done and told the waitress that they should both be medium rare. When the steaks came, they were like shoe leather where they had been cooked too long. When we were asked if everything was ok with the meal I told the waitress that it was not. She went and got the chef and the manager to come to the table. I asked them what the point of asking how we liked our meat prepared was when they clearly didn't listen and did thier own thing with it. They said that they couldn't see anything wrong with them but we could have a cup of coffee on the house. We declined the offer.
It would appear that the pub has been staffed with Eastern Europeans who are only there because they need the money. They do not appear to care about their customers. If we do the trip again, we will definately give this pub a miss!

Moored up here for the night and enjoyed a very good meal and some great beer. It was very busy and somewhat understaffed. Apart from the slow service the pub was well worth the visit.

Very nice riverside pub with adequate moorings for 3 or 4 visiting boats. On a warm sunny day the riverside beer garden is hard to beat. Good food and ale.

It used to be nicer but has gone downhill as it's got seemingly more popular. It has all the comfort and beer garden is pleasant but the soul has gone.

Of dear! Some friends from Canada and the US asked if this would be a good place to stay. Seems marvellous as a pub so I instantly recommended it.

Alas - far from perfect. Repeated Emails from North America were never answered. Bookings had to be made by 'phone. Once there my friends found no hot water in their rooms. No apologies or refunds were offered. They came away with the general impression that this is a lovely pub/hotel but that the staff were disinterested.

Ah well, I suppose that's what happens when an ever expanding co. like Greene King get a little remote from their outposts. No motivation at a local level.

What a shame. It's one of the best located houses in the whole of the UK. What a pity it failed to live up to that. Sorry GK - only 3/10 for this this one.

This used to be quite a good pub, then about 3 years ago it was re-vamped and became a very nice pub, riverside, good food, beer etc.

When I last visited it had been rebranded by Green King who must have looked at the potential of the site and increased the riverside seating, whilst at the same time replacing the menu with some very average offerings.

All in all its now a big dissapointment.
