Tourist trap pub a short walk from the very nice beach. St Austell beers figure highly on the bar, with Otter and Branscombe too. The SA Proper Job and Branscombe Summa That were both in good condition. Food looked quite good, but didn't get the chance to try as we'd left it a bit late. Barstaff very good too.

Another great pub in Branscombe. Well kept ales lovely inside and out. 9/10

Cracking pub in a cracking location. Plenty of beers on (St Austell and one guest from Branscombe Vale Brewery Summa That 5%). Enjoyed St Austell's Liquid Sunshine at 4%. All beers well kept. Great outside beer garden and warm and cosy fire inside. Very hussle and bussle. All tables booked for food when we were there. Would recommend.

Visited this fine pub again after visiting friends who live in Branscombe. I ate here on Saturday night (04.12.2010). I see that the St Austell brewery have taken over and I have to say the beers, Tribute and Proper Job were of good quality and well kept. A nice roaring log fire was on the go with dogs allowed in, which is always a nice touch. I ate here too and enjoyed a fine steak (a little pricey for Devon more like London prices) and the wife had a fish stew which was lovely. I also had to drink a pint of Thatchers cider along with a pint of Addlestones cider (sat too close to the fire one thinks! I was very thirsty!). Very nice. Staff were all dressed like school children??? Was it me or the Cider? Lovely pub . (Please see my review on the Fountain Head, Branscombe)

Aha! A multiple persona!

Whoooops!!! Sorry about that, you are quite correct, it should read CRAB & I should proof read better before pressing the post button...

"Food still excellent especially the local crap & fish caught off the beach"
I assume that's CRAB rather than Crap?

Tick...Tock...Tick...Tock...bang (just little one though)
Recently sold to St Austell Brewery so now selling upto 4 of their beers on draft plus a selection of their bottled beers. Not really a problem unless you don't like their beer. Thankfully still serving one of the excellent local ales as a guest, for me that was Branscombe Summa That, a stunner on a summers day. Food still excellent especially the local crap & fish caught off the beach where the infamous SS Napoli was grounded. Worth a trip to the beach to see the anchor which was presented to the village as a thank you for putting up with the clean up process. Cosy rooms, not cheap but after a few beers and meal a must. Well worth fighting your way down the narrow lanes to visit. For more Branscombe ales try the Fountain Head up the road a little, a village with two great pubs how lucky are they?

Another great visit to the Masons Arms, excellent Branscombe Summa That on but disappointed to find 4 other beers were St Austell! I soon discovered that the pub had been purchased 3 weeks ago by the brewery, but they are allowed 1 guest only! Food was still top notch, service can be shall I say a little slow, but hey it can get busy with tourists who haven't got a clue what they want. Talking to one of the barmen I know from previous years,he didn't think much would change as it was such a winning formula. Accomodation is never cheap but I have always found it good quality. All in all an excellent place to drink, eat, sleep and above all CHILL..

Been going to the Masons for many years, always good. However have just visited this July. Very sadly standards have slipped. Buildings starting to look tatty, no food after 2.00pm in a hotel! I expect Monday is the chefs night off as the restaurant food was awful and expensive you don't mind paying if the quality is good. I believe St Austell brewery have just purchased the Masons, so we will have to wait and see what happens but until i hear different will not be going again.

Seemed more of a restaurant than a pub. All tables were laid for food with 'reserved' signs on. However, a lovely building and great choice of ales.

Now this is a pub with character, charm and a warm friendly welcome, Serves a great choice of local and guest ales. Good all round choice of food. Never disappointed on each visit

This is a great pub - have been to it on many occassions over past 5 years and never disappointed - food is great and on a sunny day there is no better place in Devon to eat outside. Fantastic !!

The epitome of a country pub. A stone build, it is detached, occupying two buildings, with a thatched porch and a beer patio at the front and i think, round the back as well. It has climbing plants up the walls - its all so very English!
The interior has two rooms, a bar and a lounge/dining area, for the food it serves. It is white rendered, with what you would expect, lots of old pictures, memorabilia, an open fire, giving a nice wood burning smell. A central bar serves both rooms. It was very friendly and packed full of a mixed clientele - too packed, thats why i didnt eat here.
Beer; apart from tap tosh, there was Otter Bitter and Amber (very nice), the local Branscombe Branoc and Summer That and Exe Valley XXV on handpull, so a very good choice of very local and Devonshire beer.
I never had a chance to try the Fountain up the road. If it is as good as this, i want to move to Branscombe.

This is a fantastic pub, food to die for, beer kept well, dog friendly, lovely village, this pub has everything going for it. Keep up the good work Masons Arms.
|
Good pub with good beer, choice of 4 (St Austell and Otter). Food was tastey and the accomodation decent quality, all staff very polite and it was easy to see why they do so much business!
|
A cracking pub. first class ales and good food and service. Pricey? not really. A great place for a visit before or after a nice walk on beach or hills.
|
Very nice bar/restaurant with good food and beer. Serve Otter and Branscombe ales, both locally brewed.
Lovely walking area, dogs are very welcome, as are families. I would suggest booking a table though especially if you are intending to eat there in the evening.
A definite 'must try' if you are in the area.

Lovely comfortable old pub but more of an eating rather than drinking pub. Good well kept ales with good food which is not your tradtional pub grub and therefore slightly more expensive.
|
Food very expensive. Beer and welcome much better just a short walk up the road at the Fountain Head.
|
had Sunday lunch here and it was one of the best value for money meals, I must disagree with prs it is not expensive just well presented good quality food I will be making the trip down here again and again.
|
Branscombe is very fortunate to have 2 differing pubs, both of good quality.... this place is more hotel than real trad pub, but nevertheless has decent ales, not just from Branscombe brewery down the lane. very good...and open all day in summer.
the Fountain just nicks it for me tho.....
|
Nice stereotypical 'olde worlde' country pub. Very nice selection of Localish/West Country ales. Good quality food - decent value for money. Highly recommended.
|
good choice of beers cramped seating good food but exspensive keeps out the riffrafe but never the less allways seem to have a pub full good menu cooked farly quiokly
|
gorgeous, apparently unspoilt pub, about quarter of a mile from the sea. good range of real ales and a wide range of (rather expensive) food. went there about 5 yrs ago to find rather unfriendly staff; all changed on a return visit this month. recommended.
