Despite the fact that this place was actually quite busy when I was there on a Friday night, it is very spacious and I thought they could have easily put more tables in. Although if it was anymore busy I doubt we would have got served at all.
The service was slow, the food cold and the staff looked completely disinterested.
I looked at the starters and thought the chicken skewers looked nice but thought Id pass and just go for the massive steak instead. Im glad I did. When they say chicken skewers (in the plural sense) you dont expect them to give you just 2 of them! 4/5 for 2. What a rip-off. They clearly think they are some fancy restaurant instead of just a glorified pub.
After passing on the starter I was more than ready for the slightly expensive steak. Despite the steak actually being quite nice and well cooked, of the chips were burnt and the steak was far from hot. There was a group of about 10 of us so I wouldnt have been surprised if my steak been left on the side while the rest of the food cooked so that they could bring all the food out together. If this indeed was the case, its very poor even of a pub to do that.
Overall a fairly nice place let down by quite a few big issues.

It used to be a great pub, with atmosphere, nice staff etc. A new licensee has taken over, Amy Boulton, who is rude in the extreme, has zero personality, and tells the staff off in front of customers. It seems she is money orientated, not customer focussed, which she should be in todays market. The pub has a really high turnover of staff since she took over. The food, which seems her only concern when you turn up, is dreadful - every time we have eaten there, we have had a 'stomach issue', if you take my point. We no longer eat there, I hasten to add.
Never again. Please avoid at all costs, unless this Amy woman goes, when hopefully it will return to it's previous glory. I live very close by incidentally, and have been using it for 12 years. There were no problems until this woman took over, so that says it all I suppose. All I can say is go elsewhere - there are much better pubs around here anyway.

Where has the bar gone? Seems to be totally food led now.

what can I say, a great building from the outside what character and history, did you know its got a resident ghost. We were very surprised by the decor inside, light and airy, fantastic colours creating a great atmosphere. We were greeted warmly and recieved a very high standard of service from carole and kathy. Our food which we ordered was again of a high standard, well presented, hot, and great value for money. We shall certainly visit the green man again, it was great to see such a happy bunch working here who were only to happy to make our visit one to remember. So if you are in trumpington pay this pub a visit....fantastic

The Green Man has recently been refurbished and was all set up for a great start and already they are coxing it up. After the refurbishment it opened as an extremely stylish and for lack of better word cool place, with a very smart interior. Loads of green plants, great layout, etc. The food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and I loved the idea of serving a selection of wine by the carafe. (The carafes were even available in different sizes). The food was still slightly overpriced, but no more so than anywhere else.
So, back we went after a couple of weeks and to my horror I found that the layout had been changed, led by the managers sheer greed. I asked one of the staff why the layout and decoration had changed so drastically (all the plants had been removed in order to cram in just those extra few tables) and was told that their area manager had come by and didnt like it. Also, this way, they explained to me, they could fit more tables (yeah, go figure!).
So what the heck, we ordered out food anyway, ad guess what what I wanted to order had sold out. Never mind, I ordered something else sold out! My third choice was indeed available, but without the seasonal vegetables, since they had, you may have guessed, sold out.
Oh and of course they were also out of wine by the carafe. No, this is not a joke, this really did happen.

I visited the pub last week and had one of the worst meals I have ever had out. After paying for the food I was told that my meal was not available and when I chose a cheaper meal I was not reimbursed the difference. When the food arrived a piece of plastic wrapping was embedded in the chicken breast and the whole dish just tasted awful. If the prices were cheap then maybe they could be excused but paying 11 for a microwaved chicken dish served with processed veg is ridiculous. Don't bother going for anything other than a pint!!

All areas seem to be smoking. Sunday lunch is overpriced for the quality presented. Beer overpriced.

Booked my son's wedding party here. Food terrible - some cold, some nuked, some left under hot lights. No manager on duty, manager didn't phone when promised. The pub isn't able to deal with a small party. The staff were pleasant enough but the whole thing was sloppy and unprofessional. We would never go there again.
