The day was hitting a bit of a mid-afternoon lull and we were considering getting the train back but did stop off for one more pint at this bar on the spur of the moment.
Pint of ale was very good the place smart but very quiet. It was pleasant sitting out the front watching the world go by.
Needless to say this kick started the day again and many more drinks were has at other bars after this.

Went in for a bite to eat on a pleasant but breezy Wednesday night about 9 o'clock. There were about 20 people in.
The decor is smart and 'trendy' with plenty of tables and a nice comfy sofa area by the front windows. It's not a traditional pub (no salty sea dogs or darts boards) or a modern boozer (no rap videos on video screens or teen girls with far toomuch fake tan on) eithe. I thought the atmosphere was nice, 'cool' even. The music being played loud enough to enjoy but by no means obtrusive was superb - lots of Northern Soul with 60s and 70s classics by people like Bowie and Hendrix interspersed.
Me and Mrs BB felt very relaxed and was enjoying it in here even before I found the large selection of kids games in a cupboard in the bar. I grabbed the Connect 4 and proceded to give her a sound beating at it over a couple pints of 'Rattler' cider.
We bought food which arrived in about 20 minutes. I'm used to being able to get a main for �6 - �10 at home in Bristol but found that in Cornwall all mains started at �9ish and so it was here. I had a full rack of ribs with a barbecue sauce and Mrs BB. had a chicken breast in a carribean sauce. The food was well presented and there was enough of it but it was so dreadfully bland !. Mrs BB. has a delicate palate and always spots if I add a tiny bit of pepper to her dinner so she was wary of ordering a meal that came with a carribean sauce as she was wrried it might be too spicy but even she could detect not a single trace of any carribean sauce at all. My ribs were tough and totally tasteless. I mean totally devoid of a bbq sauce - so much so that I am beginning to question whether I imagined the bbq sauce being mentioned on the menu at all.
In summary - a neat, tidy 'bar' with nice, polite staff for well off young people - the sort that wear Abercrombie and Fitch, deck shoes, no socks, with their jeans rolled up to just above their ankle. I liked it but the food was very disappointing

A group of three we sat down and ordered our food. We were told there would be a 40 minute wait which was fine. However, an hour and twenty minutes later we were getting very impatient. In particular a table of eight next to us, who turned up 20 minutes after us, were receiving their food. So we decided to speak to the manager who informed us that they were on their starters that was why they were getting their food, we did not order any starters. She also said we would have to wait a further 10 minutes.
A very rude person, poor attitude and no apology. We promptly received our money back and left - and won't be going back. As well as telling all of our family and friends etc.
I've never been treated so poorly in a restaurant before.

Cannot say that this would be my first choice in Falmouth. It was originally known as the Laughing Pirate back in the 1970s - 1990s. Food is good but pricey as is the drink. The seating area at the front is limited and tight. Rear outdoor seating is very basic trestle tables. They could improve a lot on that. Agreed re shanickigins about the place's identity. Another trendy 'view of the kitchen' diner as is so popular these days.

very tired st austell brewery run space,all seems a bit lost,not sure of its identity. Hope it has a future as romour has it the brewery are getting rid.

Whilst I do agree with the post from 20 May 2006 in some ways, this is still a great place in others. You definitely have to remortgage if you want to take some visiting mates out for dinner but the food is good and the ambience really chilled. The leather sofas are comfy to lounge about on on an hungover Sunday. Well worth a visit.

I'm not the type who would normally rave about a fancy tarted up boozer - but by crimminy this one hits the mark. A splendid, and yes pricey, range of food that perfectly compliments the excellent choice of beer and cider. Plenty of seating both inside and eat and a top spot to relax in and enjoy a pint. I must admit I didn't go in the place pre-makeover so can't comment, other than that it was a lot more uninviting than it is now.

This used to be the best club in falmouth and then got done up for people with too much money to go and spend a tenner on bangers and mash. Such a shame to get rid of the one place that had real character and live bands could play at. I dont' go in here on principle.

been done up in last couple of years nice sofas and wooden floors. only one real ale avaialble when I have been in, Cornish tribute on three pumps but a fantastic pint it is. This is more of a place for eating and the food is great though bring a fair bit of cash, a tenner will get you a pint and ciabatta, main meals are hefty but worth it. Ocaasional live music, usual on a friday. Lovely front patio in summer.
