Wadworth pub with 4 of their ales - 6X, Horizon, Henry's IPA & Bishop's Tipple. As luck would have it, they also had a couple of real ciders - Weston's Old Rosie & Lilley's Crazy Goat. The pub itself is fairly unremarkable, apart from having a bit of character from its low beams and cosy rooms. I sat in the quieter front bar. There were a couple of other locals in the rear bar on my early Tuesday evening visit.

Two-barred Wadworth pub seemly focussed on the food side, but with 8 real ales on tap. Low-lighting. Pint of St George & The Dragon was on the turn but was exchanged for a pint of Swordfish with no quibble. Seemed a little on the cool side but drinkable nonetheless. Much busier than the next-door Fox on both the wet and dry front.

Well this has been done out in a half contempory half traditional way and they seem to have done their best to cover all aspects of the market, dining and drinking and entertainment. Probably good for food, and people that prefer a more contempory feel but for me it has lost all heart.

There is a totally souless feel to the place which may be all down to the lighting. I'm not a fan of brightly lit places and this is not brightly lit but in trying to set the atmosphere they have failed by using low voltage lighting. Teamed up with the green painted interior it felt like sitting in a swamp or being in a fish tank that has not been cleaned for a while.

Warmer lighting could transform it and give it some heart.

The beer could be warmer too. After enjoying excellent beer straight from the barrel at the Morning Star, the Wadsworth's Boundary and Bishop's Tipple were overly chilled and tasteless.

The place is all open plan and rangey mostly given over to dining, but not prohibitively so like some places, and there was some seating around the bar. I don't want to sound too negative as it was not all bad, it depends on what you like and they do seem to have tried to please most people. This is only my opinion, look at my profile and other posts to see where I am coming from, you may like all of the things I did not.

The staff, food, accommodation and appearance of the pub can not be faulted, all excellent in my opinion. However, the real ale wasn't up to scratch. I tried 4 of the Wadworth ales, the 'best' being Bishops Tipple. The others were too cold and lifeless. Would like to visit again if in the area, and hopefully try some guest ales if on. Also a good selection for the non real ale drinker, a few Dutch lagers & stowford cider.

I find it hard to believe that its been over a year since any comments on this pub and the last one was myself!! It has been taken over recently but it has not affected the place at all. They still have 8 ales on pretty much all the time. Most of them are Wadsworth but they usually have about 4 guest ales. The food is very good and the general atmosphere of the place is lovely. The staff are friendly and the same highly entertaining quiz night is still on a Monday evenings. Well worth a visit

Wonderful Ale pub. Always a great selection on and not just Wadworth ales. Try and come down on a Monday night if you can. Really great pub quiz. The presenter is a top bloke and very entertaining

Stopped in for my lunch hour for last week. Was pleasantly suprised. Used to visit this pub quite often until it clearly became more of a youth hostel than a pub. Seems to be under new management now, or at least a changed old management! Atmosphere was great, although not overly busy the staff made you feel welcome and those customers already eating seemed happy enough. Good lunchtime menu with a seperate board for baguette choices. Usual Wadworth ales with a choice of two or three different guests. The pint of 6X i tasted was kept well, but being a lunch hour could only have one! Food arrived with astounding speed and the quality of the baguette I chose was better than expected. Overall a great little pub, that once discovered will be returned to many times. Would and will recommend.

Real fire and not Greene King so there is at least two good things about this pub

A middling performer on the pub circuit serving the monstrous Milton Park industrial estate. This pub lacks the gastro pretensions of the pubs in East and West Hendred and yet is more spruced up than Milton's Admiral Benbow. It is inexpensive and hence well placed to corner passing trade.

update-Jez has left and the new manager has managed to scare off the locals it seems, shame. Still a nice pub, but the atmosphere has definitely suffered

great place, always guest beers and a nice atmosphere, though very busy during lunchtime on weekdays. Food is OK, lagers a bit pricey, but I guess that way Jez manages to tempt more people into drinking ale.

Good guest beers, food mediocre, service can be slow week days.

Great local pub which also gets a fair bit of business trade from the local business/research parks. Excellent selection of real ales and regular "events". Recently had some good en-suite accomodation added. Good food, not clever or fussy, but tasty. Jez and Mandy are very genial. Enjoy, I certainly did last year when I was a bit of a local, and do when I can now.

A top real ale establishment. Beer festivals (30+ beers) are held every few months. Real ale fans should give this lovely old pub their support.
