Decent pub which does food in this effectively preserved National Trust village. It's a Wadworth's house so don't expect anything too exciting on the beer front. It has a gravelled outside seating area. Service pretty good.

Plenty of folk sat outside of this place on Sunday just gone. The end of November and a good Al Fresco vibe.
We arrived there all of a fluster at noon - me and Doris Mitchell - having not booked for lunch. I posed the question about availablilty of space for two for lunch and was rewarded by a very courteous lady who accomodated us both nicely. It was, afterall, Doris's special birthday treat. I negotiated three of the four Wadworth offerings whilst Doris caressed a goldfish bowl full of maison rougio. It's beginning to hurt these days - handing over between �6 and �10 for two drinks each time one pays a visit to the bar. It won't stop us though will it ?
The beers were all served acceptably and the lunch itself was delightful - (though Doris did insist on a starter which irked me somewhat). As a previous contributor suggested, the portions could have been a little more generous.
We then hot-footed it home stopping off for a cleansing ale on the way at The Pig & Whistle, Melksham. Happy Birthday Doris.

Originally built around 1360 and rebuilt after fire with flagstone floors and full Georgian interior. Wadworth managed and mostly an eatery with lovely large open fire in restaurant and small log burner in bar. Bar area has an empty feel to it despite being steeped in over 200 yrs of history. Well kept beers, food a tad expensive. B&B available. Superb rear courtyard garden. Featured in many period dramas.

Have been to this pub many times over the years as live nearby but seems to be on a downward spiral lately. In a brilliant location and copes well with tourist numbers but menu choice is very boring and portions - average, not much on the specials board either. Nothing to write home about.

Terrific Wadworth's pub in stunning surroundings. When I was here they had three Wadworth's ales on - IPA, 6X and the seasonal Malt'n'Hops. All kept well and tasting very good. Superb b&b accomodation, and incredibly helpful and welcoming staff. The food on offer is excellent also - especially the option of having kippers for breakfast. Divine! I can imagine this place could be a bit hairy in the summer when the tourists are around, but if you're looking for a decent pint in the area - or even a place to stay - this is well worth a look.

Once through the imposing front of this village pub you are met by friendly faces, great wadworth beer and good quality food. There are supurb bed and breakfast rooms which let you enjoy this amazing village to its full. A must visit pub for all.

Imposing pub near Fox Talbot museum and Lacock Abbey. Good mix of clientelle although often ovberwhelmed at lunchtime by large parties of pensioners on tour. Small garden at rear but beware of wasps in summer - I think they breed them there!
