Swan, Bromhamback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Stopped in for a pint after a long walk. Greene King pub , so IPA, Abbot, so I went for the unknown, which was Hog`s Back T.E.A. which was 4.2%. Good strong taste, with a bitter finish. The Swan itself is picturesque , friendly, and glancing at the menu, quite reasonably priced. I`ll give it a go, on my next visit.

Going from the reviews below, things have not changed here much in the period since they were posted. Went here for dinner with wife and mother-in-law last night. We were ALL disappointed with our food. Things didn't come with what they were supposed to and we weren't informed of this. I whose my meal on the basis of having some fresh veg with it and ended up with chips. Believe me, I like chips, but didn't fancy anything with Chios on this occasion. Complained to the member of staff serving us to no avail about our grievances and manager was "unavailable" due to another staff member going ill. Not a great place by any stretch of the imagination. Avoid - especially if going here for anything special - as from what we heard from the table next to us, they'd had a 21st birthday meal ruined.

Has GK 1799 in here. Tasty pint of a tricky beer. Would certainly come here again.

Just got back from the Swan a family 'Christmas', get togeher, we had ordered our meals for the day five weeks previous. I don't know why we bothered they got the meals wrong, and said we had got our list wrong until we insisted they show us the list they had My particular dish was apparently not on the menu any more! One of our party had lasagna which was okay, the rest of us had a mediocre turkey dinner, luke warm, smothered in gravy. Mediocre sweets (you can't mess up cheescake or profiteroles when they are straight from the packet) but the cheese and biscuits served straight from the fridge with iced cheese was not brilliant. The service was incredibly slow and some of the waitresses had 'attitude', we eventually got a weak apology and given to two bottles of wine. So below avarage food and bad service all served in a cold room...............give it a miss.

13th March 2011, just returned home from a meal at the Swan in Bromham, Bedfordshire and we are sitting here, all four of us having some extra food to eat. We booked a table at the Pub for 1pm today for my birthday treat. We arrived around five past and were shown to our table, that is when it went downhill. My wife placed our order for four meals and drinks. My wife brought our drinks back to our table and we waited, and waited. An hour later still no food, then around 5 minutes later our food arrived. To say we all were disappointed would be an understatement. The steak I ordered was well cooked, no fat and looked good. The rest of the plate did not contain what I would call a meal. I was given one mushroom and half a tomato, along with a handful of dry chips. My wife and eldest daughter had the salmon salad. I am not sure how it can be classed as a Salmon salad as you had to look hard to see the one piece of thin Salmon sitting among the field of salad leaves. Yes it was a large bowl of salad but in no way a Salmon Salad. The only meal which was reasonable was our youngest daughters and that was a burger. However, she asked for Tomato Ketchup, but was given some spicy relish type of source which has badly disagreed with her. The icing on the cake for this meal was the bill. In all for the four of us, who ate around two and a half meals was over 40 with one drink each. Would I go again NO, would I recommend it NO. The restaurant is nice, a nice spread of drinks, layout is good and it has a nice feeling, but the food is disgraceful, and the service is oh so slow. A venue we will be avoiding and suggesting the same to our friends. Not nice!!

Four out of a group of six were served possibly the driest risotto ever, topped with a very over cooked chicken breast. true we were offered another dish and we did not pay for it, but there was no apology or comment from any of the staff or the landlady. An apology for spoiling a birthday celebration for a frien would have been nice. i don't think we shall be going again.

This seems to be the only pub in the area doing food on Sunday nights, and it was certainly pulling the crowds when we visited. Even better, they were offering two meals for 9.95. The food was fantastic value and, despite the pub being busy, the service was excellent. Would recommend the 'Trio of Puddings' dessert. The 'LBW' beer was good too.

Popped in here yesterday evening - friendly staff and friendly locals. Didn't try any food but the Stella was OK. Yeah - quite a decent pub.

Had a meal here a few months back now, all in all very average. It's definitely a McPub. Uninspiring.

Nice pub, nice location, food average, could be a lot better very easily. Shame about the staff and service: There's either too many staff on so they sit about reading the paper, chatting etc but forget to check if anyone's waiting at the bar. When its busy there can be a wait to get served as staff seem to go for regulars first. There is a nice mix of ages so the atmostphere should be good but often in little cliques, most of whom are either friends of staff or parents of staff so the service is always a bit lacking. Such a shame as a good manager with a good grip could make this into something so much better.

Ale in good nick, food typical industrial catering standard. Requested extra gravy for my bangers & mash, no can do as all portion controlled, i.e. it all comes out of a plastic bag. Food here used to be very good, if the guy dressed up as a kitchen jocky couldn't knock up a portion of gravy, then he should not be in a kitchen!!!!
No return for me after yesterday.
Great shame, it's on it's way down a great rate of knots.

One year on and I'm afraid this pub is on the slide of late. Food is still of the same poor standard as ever, and the beer is still of a high quality, but there is an increasingly vocal group of clique of regulars whose antics can be rather unpleasant to the ear and eye. A firm hand is needed to steer this pub back to the good standard that it used to have - the removal of the wall between bar and lounge was a mistake I am afraid Greene King.

First visit to the Swan. A very nice pub with friendly staff but let down with the food. We tried the Sunday carvery but the couldn't even manage to cut the lamb never mind eating it. We got the impression the meat wasn't carved from a joint at all.
|
Tried this pub for a change to our normal local as we had not eaten there before.
Greene King IPA was excellent. The menu and specials board looked very inviting. However the food was a big let down. The batter on my fish was overcooked and the peas were inedible. My wife chose Fisherman's Pie which tasted better than it looked and her vegetables were overcooked. The garlic bread with cheese (2.75) was also inedible.
It's a shame that with a little more attention to detail the food could have been very good. There was also the same lack of attention in the pub with the pub being cold when we arrived and no one looking after the fire which had almost gone out.
We shall not return for food unless a good friend provides a strong recommendation.

Can be brilliant on a quiz night as long as you get there early enough for a seat if you are a smoker - the area is SO undersized for the amount of regular smokers, let alone extras for the quiz. The staff can be quite fierce if you perch NEAR to the smoking area and actually smoke if there are no seats available in the smoking area! Food is haphazard and somewhat repetetive (cherry tomatoes!), ours have ranged from 'spot-on' excellent 1 lunch time, to 'dire' the following evening - wrong food served, luke warm, tough, long time waiting. The make over that occurred 2 years ago ruined the general ambience of the pub, the same curtains were put up and hadn't been washed, the same lamp shades are crooked etc. It is only thanks to the lovely barmaid on a Tuesday night (Eileen) that we visit at other times!

As a regular of many years, please don't be fooled by the above average prices for food. It really is dreadful.
For drinking though, this pub is an absolute belter. Friendly staff, top quality Abbot and pleasant surroundings. Non smoking in all of the pub save for what used to be the bar (lounge and bar was all knocked into one open plan area a couple of years ago)
Please don't encourage the terrible food by eating it. It simply is not good enough.
Did I mention that the food was bad?

Nice pub but the food is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes you get a really nice meal the next time you have to send it back 2 or 3 times before they get the quality right.

A posh place indeed. The food is good. Popular quiz night on Tuesdays. One criticism is that the smoking area is very small for the size of the place, which leads to a bit of a crush in that area whilst the rest of the pub can seem rather empty. Though I suppose that doesn't really matter for much longer.

very posh this pub, good food, quite cheap, lovely place to relax, also has a patio garden.
|
Really nice welcoming pub with good beer garden. Interior is tastefully decorated, food on offer is good quality for the price, comfortable and relaxing.
