unfortunatly a recent refurb has killed off some of the historic charm to the interior. nothing special inside anymore.

just amazing inside. lovely wonky low beamed ceilng. i love the snug room at the front of the pub which fits up to 5 people nicely. i will happily walk all the way up from amersham just for the pleasure of sitting in this pub.
in the summer there are benched tables out the front under the tree and facing the cricket pitch, shared with the pub next door.this gives the brililant (and fairly unique) opportunity to swap between the two places for refills as you like.

Great pub, good selection of beer, welcoming attentive landlord/staff, good atmosphere. Served a delicious and perfectly cooked meal from al a carte menu. A cut above and excellent value IMHO. Reason? Quality food genuinely prepared on the premises, not fakeable. On a weekend break in the area, picked The Swan from their website and beerintheevening reviews. Feel we struck lucky, happy days.

We used to come here quite a lot, attracted by the village green setting and the Timothy Taylor Ale, but I have noticed how expensive drinks can be here. I seem to remember a couple of earlier occaisions having been stung here, but not bothering to post anything, and putting it to the back of my mind (and forgetting it). I think 8.90 for a pint of TT, a J20 with soda, a packet of crisps and salted peanuts is outrageous! Nice ambience though.

Great little village pub overlooking the cricket pitch. Perfect for summer evenings. We visited here yesterday and also had a meal, which was well cooked and well presented. There's also 5 handpumps with only 4 in use on our visit - Hook Norton Summer Haze, Adnams Bitter, Brakspear Bitter and Taylor Landlord. Addlestones cider is also available. Marginally best of the 10 pubs we visited yesterday.

We are lucky enough to live round the corner from this pub, as it really is excellent. Just last weekend I had the nicest meal I've eaten in a good few years - wonderful sea bass in a superb sauce which complimented the fish perfectly. Yes more expensive than other pub food but the food here is second to none. Staff are all friendly too.

Great Pub. in fact two pubs side-by-side nestled in a village location opposite a cricket ground.
We had a few pints of excellent TT, and had a meal from the A La carte, served to us in the Garden, by very Friendly staff. We were warned that the food is all cooked fresh and were given approx waiting times for each dish. Great work. certainly manages expectations.
However we were forgotten for our desserts, we were given a menu, and then after 30 mins gave up, paid the bill and left.
The food however was simply beautiful. Well presented and bloody tasty! Excellent!
But on a negative... have to agree with 'Redriley'... We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday afternoon. The sun was out, and plenty of people milling around the two pubs. We were looking for a pint and a snack (Sandwich etc). However we were told that they only did food from 7pm and the snack menu was only available at lunch-times. As it happened we were in no rush, so it suited us to have a couple of beers and wait, but we felt that they were missing a big trick here.
The food was not cheap, but no objection to paying for fresh, well presented, and tatsy grub!
A good 7 / 10.

Great pub in a great location. I've never been disappointed here. OK, it's a bit more expensive than the the average pub, but you get what you pay for.

Still as good as when I rated it in 15 Nov 2005. I've had some meals here since then and they are top quality, though not cheap. An excellant special meal and night out for your partner. Timothy Taylor still great.

A bit of a curate's egg. Don't get me wrong it's a wonderful building and the ale is good (would have said excellent if they had some example of the local brewers' craft), but all I wanted was a pint and a sandwich - I don't need a huge great steak at lunchtime. But no, it's mega meals only. At the time, I wasn't the only one making this comment and I am tempted to say that there's more profit in meat and two veg than a humble cheese sarnie, so what the poor customer wants can go hang if it isn't going to turn the owner into Rockerfeller overnight. Unfortunate.

Very nice warm country pub, perfect for a winter's day. Had the Brakspear which was a most enjoyable pint.
The food was was quite pricey though. Had fish and chips, the fish was first class but the chips were laced with salt which was a bit disappointing.

Great pub with many real ales that are well kept, a friendly cosy atmosphere and bags of character. Excellent food, although a bit pricey, but well prepared and presented so well worth a visit.

Excellent pub, full of character and has the big bonus of having no coverage for any mobile phone network. YES, no annoying ringtones or people shouting into their mobiles, plus a very pleasant atmosphere from the staff and customers. It was lunchtime so I ordered the bar-snack beef sandwich, it arrived, the size of a main course and was very, very good! To drink, I had a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord which was excellent! The barman was very generous with samples of the other beers which were all very well kept. I tried Brakspears and Adnams, both which were in perfect condition. A superb pub and one that I will visit again soon I hope. Recommended without any reservation.

A really great 500-year-old pub - much better than the Crown next door. Lovely old wooden beams throughout, a good selection of beers kept in tip-top condition and a friendly barman who really knows his stuff. Well worth a visit to sit by the fire or prop up the bar.
There aren't too many pubs like this so it has to be treasured.

Lovely old country pub with large fire place and original tudor style timber cellings. Beer excellant especially the Timothy Taylor Landlord. Food looks great too, if a little pricey but has award wining chef so probably worth it.
