Reopened in April 2017 and it's blooming great.
No frills boozer, excellent staff, top locals.

After deciding to get rid of Sky this is a huge den for non-handlers

I went to Dartmouth Arms after a long period of time and found a great real ales ( 6 new pumps ), cheaper beer than in 2010 and good food. We had Sunday roast (lamb, pork belly ) and both very very tasty and good size. While I was eating I was listening to lively Sunday music . The atmosphere was very cosy with friendly bar staff . Me and my friends had a great time and we will be definitely coming back soon. Good locals and still remains trendy.

puppyfeat you're spot on.
I watch the football in this pub as it's the best place in the area for that and it's actually a nice pub too. Have been coming here for about 5 years.
A couple of weeks ago I was charged 4 for a pint of Becks Vier. I said to the barman that this was extremely expensive and he agreed but gave me the old "I don't set the prices" spiel......today I was charged 4.70 (!!!) for a pint of Estrella....
I watched the 1st half of the match and then decamped to Kentish town where I paid 3.35 for a pint.
I refuse to drink in this pub anymore. They are going to drive out a lot of local, working class people with their prices and it'll become another one of those pubs that only the toffs drink in. (Maybe that's the idea?) Either way I'm out!
Management and Landlord take note!

This pub is my local - well, closest anyway. It's always been overpriced for what it is (nothing special) but after yesterday I'll never be going there again. I was charged - and stupidly paid - 4.75 for a pint of Staropramen. Now I know this is a premium beer but it was only a couple of weeks ago they were asking 4.10 for it, which was exorbitant then! I didn't say anything yesterday but I thought I'd tell the wider world this way that you should avoid this place and there are plenty better pubs around that have more realistic prices. Never again.

Don't be sucked in by the westerham ales. Generally in such poor condition - as are any other ales, like thwaites, which sometimes appear - that it is really not worth bothering with. You will either return your drink immediately or wish you had halfway down the glass. Keep walking to the junction, turn right and head for the Southampton. A shame, makes you yearn for the Taylor Walker years, with leaking roof and golldfish tank.....
|
Slightly glitzy interior with an unusual copper bar top.
A good place if you're a local or happen to be in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place.
|
Just moved into the area and I've stumbled on the Dartmouth Arms. I was a bit unsure of it from the outside. The blackboards look old and dated. But entered to a lovely open fire and a friendly, polite Scotish man behind the bar. Had a glass of nicely chilled dry white wine - something that is hard to come by in pubs these days. I was really surprised at how nice and friendly the place was and at how bad wall paper could be. I've been back quite a lot over the past few weeks. A great local.

After taking in the views off Parliament Hill on a baking day, we popped into this Pub for a much needed refresher and we were very impressed with it. Obviously it is chasing the foodie market, but the beers we had were most acceptable, there were 2 Westerham beers on at the time along with some standard beers. Friendly, comfortable, the decor is odd but not displeasing. It's situated in a pleasant area and is well worth a visit.
|
Wonderful building that has been refurbished in a way that won't agree to all but in no offensive. Wonderful large door and windows.
Lovely real fire .
3 handpumps.Only one beer on .Mmm Disappointing. When it is your business, and your sole existence to buy beer and then sell it on to keep customers happy..........That said the Westerham Bull Dog was very enjoyable if expensive at 3.40.
A few of George Michael's friends present on my visit.
I will return.

I used to love this place when I lived down the road, and am still happy to drop by when I'm in the neighbourhood. Nice beer, pleasant staff, great pub quiz, but God knows what they've done to the decor! What were you thinking?
|
In favour of the recent refurbishment and always a good place for a decent pint. Guest ales are a bonus (Cains Mild was on a few weeks ago). One critisism is that sometimes the food does take too long to arrive but, that said, worth popping in if you're in the area.
|
Went in today. It's had a refurbishment - no more wood panelling and some lurid wallpaper. Back room going to be a restaurant for half the week. Looks a bit of mess now, like it doesn't know what it wants to be. Don't think I'll bother making the effort to come here so much now.

Came in on Thurs 21 Aug. Deuchars IPA, Pride and Adnams Bitter. A large selection of bottled ciders and perries, they could really do with a list. Also on draught were Staropramen, Leffe and Hoegaarden and they had bottles of Titanic Stout, maybe others. Two roms either side of a central bar, a bit spit and sawdust and has the feel of a community pub.
|
Favourite pub in the area for eating, always good food, well cooked and good value. Much more pleasant since the smoking ban, although this does mean that some of the staff are always outside on a "smoke break"! Downsides - staff a little indifferent and seem to hate clearing tables.
|
Lovely feel to the place. Well kept beer (though a slightly disappointing choice of real ale available). I particularly liked the two real fires in the one bar and the mini-library in the corner. definitely worth future visits.
|
Wonderful to find a pub in the area which serves both as a cracking local but also somewhere for a quality meal at reasonable prices. Seems to be a fair few new staff all of whom are lovely. Shame that the last manager matt has left. He was a great laugh, always good to have a drink with. Go to the quiz if you can put up with the somewhat pompous quizmaster. Always a good night!
|
Use the Dartmouth regularly & like the 'poncy ciders'!Food is good & well priced 5.00 for cod & chips on Fridays! It is very smokey though - staff have to work hard to keep the restaurant area smoke free. This will all change on July 1st & I will go even more often!
|
Cracking local boozer, always a lively atmosphere, good for football watching and a great quiz every other Tuesday. My favourite pub in the area.
|
Atypical of the area; slightly lively as Sunday lunchers competing with the football. Beer choice was the usual lazy options (Adnams) - OK again.
|
Great pub. Decent balance of good food/good beer/good bar staff/sport on the tv - usually on mute for the 'smaller'games and nice and busy with a good atmosphere for the bigger sporting events. People sound as well. Perfect - but keep it quiet.....
|
One of my local pubs...though still not sure what qualifies it as a "locals pub." For my money it's inhabited with a mixutre of smug, tertiary educated Guardian/Time Out readers and a smaller number of actual real working class people -they can't however be local - by law you actually have to have rich parents to live in Dartmouth Park. I go there about once a month and that's about as much cigarette smoke that I can tolerrate. Bar staff very tasty and food very friendly. Decent beers and lots of poncey ciders.
|
Friendly boozer, good mix, decent ale, food okay/good. Best and least pretensious pub in the vicinity.
|
Absolute BENCHMARK Adnams Bitter on ealier tonight. An Archers' beer was also available - very good - plus Bass which time did not permit trying. But I must recommend the Adnams which was of a quality seldom experienced outside Southwold.
|
Great pub, this. Interesting food (try the English platter) and a friendly, quiet atmosphere which encourages you to take a seat and read a book. Sits on what was the bank of the old river fleet - it flows underground, practically under the pub's garden, nowadays. Only flaw is that it gets really, really crowded when there's football showing (on the two tiny TV screens)/
|
The Dartmouth is a lovely pub. It is a real locals type of pub, certainly not the sort of boozer found that often in London. Great food, good selection of beers, the football and cricket are usually on, and they even supply newspapers. In the back bar, they often showcase different types of art as well. Currently they have loads of sporting art which is well worth a look. Great pub, cool staff, highly recommended.
|
Only been the once, but really liked the mix of people food and atmosphere. A bit on the trendy side, but not too much to mak it snobby. Would recommend it to anyone.
|
Best pub in the area, caters for football, food, top beer, top people

Boring my a**e. Footy on the telly in the big front room, superb quiz and food in the back room, excellent beer from Adnams, Archers and others. Congratulations to Nick and all concerned. I wish it was in Camberwell though!

BORING

A nice pub shame about some of the larger they sell, but hey ho, you cant have every thing. Good place to shelter from the rain.

Lovely local with unusual but pleasant interior, GREAT food, and a good range of decent drinks. Difficult to find but worth it.

The hoegie is too dear. Should be about 3. And the new colour(decor) is tragic. Hi Nick & the gang.

what are you lot on about? True, I live only 50 yards away, but ne'er-the-less, how hard is it to find a decent independent pub in London nowadays? Chain pubs are bloody everywhere now, and most 'local' pubs are like The Slaughtered Lamb. Beer is perfectly kept, Nick the landlord is passionate about the food (and especially the booze) and it's always welcoming, warm and comfortable (where'd you get 'grotty' from?). The quiz is foolish fun, and they serve Adnams!! Would give it 10, but that would involve someone coming to my house and giving me a piggy-back to get there.

One of my locals, nit the best though. Can be a bit grotty at times, the food is not as good as it has been, the beer is expensive too. But the worst thing is the music, its some piped music channel they use and it is truly awful ! They are friendly enough and the quiz is fun, but thats all!
Heather - 16 Sep 2003 11:27 |
yes, not sure either, and I agree about it being expensive, though there doesn't seem to be much difference between the pubs in this area... has anyone ever acutally read one of the books I wonder...
Sandra - 6 Aug 2003 17:19 |
Beer,food ok but expensive.staff helpful.pub is a bit pretentious.come 11pm its "we've had you dough now go"
robert - 6 Aug 2003 00:20 |
Hmmm, wasn't really sure about this one- yes, did well in the 'trying to be local' stakes but still felt like a pretentious north london pub. Sure the food could be good- the chef was obviously having a bit of an off night when I went. Wouldn't rule out trying it again.

Seriously challenging pub quiz where everybody wins something. Fab! And the bar staff are fantastic!

This pub is a fine example of how a traditional local can remain intact following a change of ownership. Formerly an Ind Coope house, it became a freehouse in 2000 and now keeps three beers on handpump normally Adnams and two constantly changing guest beers. The food is excellent - try the mussels or the sausages & mash - and is served until 9.30pm. Look out for the tv set with Test Card "F" behind a goldfish tank illuminated artificially. Unobtrusive background music occasionally. Chess, and other board games available. A range of books and newspapers are available for the solitary drinker, but this is really a good place to come and enjoy an evening with friends. Nearest tube Tuffnell Park.
