Red Lion, Chinnorback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The refurb work overran and Covid lockdown caused further delays and for a variety of reasons I have only just managed to get back here. On a sunny Thursday early evening the place was very busy inside and out. Three smallish rooms inside with the bar in the centre room and an undercover outdoor area just outside the back door with a good size marquee having taken over the carpark so plenty of space for all. No food is offered by the pub but a different street food van is on site each weekend. At time of my visit there were 3 local ales, White Horse Village Idiot, Vale Brill Gold and XT3 with another from Pig and Porter, can't remember the name. Definitely worth a visit. For railway buffs the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Heritage Railway is a 10 minute walk away.

This pub has slowly declined in recent times but has been acquired by Oak Taverns who operate a number of renowned real ale pubs in the area. The pub is temporarily closed for a refurb and should reopen by the end of the month. I will post again once I have paid a visit or two by which time any teething problems should be resolved.

An interesting establishment. Beams, fireplace, brasses etc. All the stuff you'd expect to find in a proper alehouse. A homely and traditional feel to it. Quiet too. I visited with my wife at 1330 on a weekday afternoon and she asked if there was any food. There was, we were told, but they closed at 1400. Limited choice and landlord seemed to take offence when wife tried to order something which turned out to be a child's dinner. (She wasn't that hungry). Bit rushed as well as we were made only too aware they shut at 2. Felt like we were an inconvenience Exactly my kind of pub but just think it could be slightly more welcoming for non-regulars 3 real ales on tap

I've lived in Chinnor for over year now and this is my local! Ian and Mary always go out of their way to make people welcome, and even provide children's clubs and activities so parents can enjoy socialising.
The Cider (Stowford) is always excellent as are the range of guest beers, frequently changed to offer variety. The food is home cooked and hearty.
Great ambience, Cider, Ale and Food, definitely worth a visit.

i think there are 6 pubs in the village of Chinnor, not bad going considering there are around 50 odd pubs a month UK wide shutting their doors! However the Red Lion is probably the best, a lovely 300 year old building with open fires beams etc, up to 4 real ales on at any one time and all in pretty good order, check out their website! landlord and lady both very friendly and informative, before arrival i e-mailed the pub as i wanted to stay somewhere near the area, in actual fact i e-mailed numerous other establishments in the area and never got a reply, with the Red lion i had one with 6 hours of sending it, goes a long way customer service!! keep it up!!

Nice pub, fires & friendly servie- nice pint of Hooky Spoiled by the uni students behind us, proving that anglo saxon is still alive & well & being used regularly in the country! (which sounds a bit like some of the words bing used!)

Went there today, or at least tried to. The car park was full of notices such as don't park here for the shops, and don't turn here. A blackboard outside advertised four real ales, and that the pub was in the 2007 Good Beer Guide. Good food was available 12-2:30. The place was shut at 1:30. What a waste of time - has the landlord ever thought that the customer should be informed as to what is going on. Note to others - don't bother.
