Star Inn, Rainfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A nice pub serving a good range of real ales. Very food driven but with a separate bar area. Worth a visit.

I was here on Sunday evening. This seemed like a locals pub. There is a bar area as you enter and a larger room beyond, which appears to be popular with diners. Brains The Rev James, Coach House Postlethwaite's, Thwaites Wainwright, Facers Midwinter Minstrel, Oceanic Steam White Star & George Wright Pipe Dream. I had the White Star which was good. I was hoping for a dark ale. But none were forthcoming. Still a decent option locally though.

No Bass (Thwaites was very good) but that was only downside to a really good pub meal in an attractive old pub with a mixed bag of locals and friendly staff. Very good value lunch too.

Never thought I'd say this but The Star is by far the Best Pub in Rainford, well kept beer, Black Sheep & Bass seem to be generally on plus one maybe two others, there's also an interesting range of Belgium beers and their specialist glasses. The bar is sited away from the restaurant area which still gives the place a traditional pub feel. If I was still living in Rainford this would be my local.

Now four beers, and TimTaylor Landlord appears to be a fixture. Restaurant remains very popular. By amile the best pub in Rainford.
|
Now a highly popular pub-restaurant,recently extended and with an improved beer-garden.
Three cask beers now available.

Compact pub on road into Rainford village.New landlord seems to have improved both the ambience and the food, reflected in it's increased popularity. (Previous tenant was certainly not "mine host"). Improved outdoor drinking area and a warm welcome, together with the capture of the accomplished chef from the nearby Colliers Arms, should ensure the renaissance of this pleasant hostelry. Two decent cask beers on recent visit, served well, but expensive for area.
