Freston Boot, Frestonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Surprised by some of the other comments. I have been several times and found the range and quality of the ale to be good (both draft ale and bottled beers). Food is excellent, although a little on the pricey side. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Large main road establishment primarily for dining though has a few stools at the bar for drinkers. They had plenty of ales on but the quality wasn't up to much. The red Mill was just about drinkable, the Lacon Affinity was dire and I had to have it changed (they still didn't stop serving it though) to Wherry - which was just a patch on what it should be. It also prides itself on being 'the first cashless pub' in the UK. Cards only - no cash

Appears to have changed management again. The owner was greeting we punters at the door, which was nice albeit unexpected. London Pride, Adnams, Spitfire and Wharforde's Wherry at the bar. Food not cheap but good. The soup was haddock chouder, particularly delicious. One pot of cream per bowl, I fear... Quite a few gastronomically motivated visitors, but the public bar was also full. Recommended.

A bit late but it has been bugging me - went here for Valentine's this year and refuse to set foot in the place again.
had to pre-order - glad I only oredered on the day the guys next to us couldn't remember what they prdered and the food was unidentifiable! Say no more!
Choice of wine - hmm well red or white was the choice - it was terrible and something floating in the botle was laughed off as crystalised sugar... may be it was I am no expert but it tasted foul - we were charged highly for it and laughed at for asking what it was!!!!!
All in all not plesent I don' know what happened to the place it used to be nice definitely not recommended any more - even just for a beer I'd go up the road to the Oyster Reach or a bit further the other way to the Butt & Oyster!

We booked to go here Easter Sunday as it was my partner's mother's birthday and is just up the hill from us and, therefore, convenient.
We have been in occasionally for a drink and the menus we had seen, but not sampled, seemed interesting. The landlord was also congenial.
The meal was an almost total disappointment. I had a Stilton-stuffed and bacon wrapped chicken breast from the 'a la carte' menu. This was fine, but, I'm sure, out-sourced. Not that that's an issue.
The two ladies ordered the Sunday Roast Beef - this was advertised on a chalkboard of 'Todays Specials'. I thought it odd that there were no prices on the board, but you assume the 'roast' will be a reasonable price. Not so. It turned out to be as much as most of the main menu items.
The beef was appalling. It should have been dispatched directly to a saddlery. The vegetables were barely cooked. I, personally, like them still crunchy, but these were near raw.
I have to congratulate the waitress that served us. She wasn't stupid and must have realised that the food she had not prepared, but was serving, was below par. She asked if everything was OK - so I told her. She said she would pass comments on to the 'chef'.
The bill was the final straw.
....'hate to whinge, but give it a wide berth. This place could be so good but....

Had a xmas meal here and don't know if it was a one off but the food was very average and what put me off was the anaemic looking susages (think they used the microwave..) and stffing balls - yuk. Wasn't the greatest meal I have had. Sorry I won't be returning to eat again but it is a nice location and old pub woudl be Ok for a summers drink so would go for a drink. Staff seemed nice too.

Lovely place. Good beer, good food, v friendly helpful staff. Pleasant to sit out in the garden, or sit in the bar or the restaurant. If this was nearer a town it would be packed, but that is apart of its charm and it probably has one of the best bar ladies you could meet.

Attractive old country pub, with moderate size public bar and an unobtrusive restaurant extension. Adnams beer plus guest, in January 08 Tournament. Range of food small but very high quality, though quite pricey as you would expect. When I went in, the music of Texas was playing in the background, and I don't mean wistful ballads about dogs dying and trailers burning down. There is an unsurprising boot theme to the decor and pictures by local artists for sale on the wall. Parking to front more than adequate.

Always a friendly welcome, excellent menu and superb food. Every time we go it feels like 'coming home'.

After our second visit to this 'pub/resturant' we can recommend its beer & drinks from the bar area and the menu from the resturant. Service was pleasant and helpful, although taking of the order and service including dealing with payment could have been quicker. Quality of food for our four diners was very good indeed. My only comment would be that the decor and 'loos' are looking a bit in need of attention.

I visited the Freston Boot for lunch in early October 2006. The food and wine were excellent, the service prompt and pleasant and the ladies loos clean and inviting. If business takes me in that direction again I shall have no hesitation in paying another visit to The Boot.
