I have not visited this lovely old pub for a long time and discovered that it had been taken over by new management since October 2013. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The beers including two guest ales, I especially enjoyed!! I ate in the restaurant and portions are still very generous and value for money with a good comprehensive menu too. Although I did not stay for the evening, they apparently had a live band playing and when enquired I was shown a board iftn the bar listing many evenings of live music to come. I recommend a visits to The Good Intent pub!

Gosh, that submission by alezilla is worrying. We were there for the 3 hours that they are open on the same Saturday lunchtime. We ate and the food was superb and the portions generous and served in the beamed dining area. The bar area is equally enchanting. The thing that let it down for me was the choice of beers. I had the Butcombe guest which was ok and then looked to have ESB (it's a Fullers tied house) but the lady serving us had never heard of it and said I must mean HSB. I declined as sadly I never really liked that particular product of Horndean (RIP). I had the London Pride instead but there lies my disappoint in that it was so close in style to the Butcombe I could barely taste the diffference. Last year I congratulated Fullers by letter on a pub they have in Brighton that served a fantastic range of ales, all theirs, and included a real stout. With the superb food that was being offered thie pub should have been much busier with diners and I wonder if the reopened Drum in the town which is apparantly offering a good range of micros with differing styles is extracting custom for that reason and offering good food at the same time. Dangerous times for the Good Intent and given alezilla's comment very worrying for the future.

Closed on a saturday- we were asked through a window by a member of staff 'what did we want', well, I would have thought that was rather obvious...'there are 50 million pubs in petersfield' she shrieked with no hint of an apology. Hmmm...by my reckoning, that leaves petersfield with 49,999,996 pubs which are very good at concealing themselves. A Fullers vehicle requiring some urgent staff training methinks.

Visited recently, for the first time under the current ownership.
Service was excellent, and the food portions were large. I had a small portion of chowder and sausages and mash with a pint of Butcombe Bitter.
A good meal. Unfortunately my first choice of main course was 'off', which spoilt an otherwise pleasant experience.

Revisited reccently, with old friends.
The beer seemed to be fully acceptable - I was designated driver, and my water was fine.
The food was excellent.
However - there is always a 'however', isn't there? - the service was inexperienced.
Just one of our small party had a starter, which was brought at the same time as the mains [and after a wait that was certainly not inconsiderable: I was on the point of asking when the starter would appear].
Not handled very well, and no overt offer of even a token reduction in the bill to compensate for having to scoff the starter down quickly beofre the mains got cold.
I'm English, and I don't ake too much of a fuss.
Perhaps I should.
Still, if the young serving staff learn from it, it will be to their benefit.
Now a seven.

Really nice pub, if a little small and weird inside. Really nice food and nice to sit on the terrace bit when it's sunny and watch the world go by.

Good selection of real ales, excellent plentiful home-cooked food, friendly staff, attractive location, character pub. What else can you ask for! Highly recommended. ( A Winchester visitor)

Went there for a meal the other night, for the first time in two years. The food was well prepared and service efficient and friendly. As I was driving, I can not comment on the beer, but a glass of wine with my meal was of average 'pub wine' quality but not overpriced for the area.

Went in for lunch yesterday. Selected this pub from a guide.
Good choice.
As noted before, it's an 'old-fashioned boozer', with all sorts of patrons
The beer [Fuller's London Pride] and cider [Strongbow] were very good.
They still do Gales.
The meal was excellent. It's almost a pub with a restaurant tucked on, and it looks as if people locally know it's good. You have to book for a later table [after about 1 pm] it appears.
Warning - the sticky toffee pudding is excellent, but the portion size is large - you, too, may struggle to finish it!

Strong eight.

Really very decent old school boozer. Gales beers, old-style but good-looking pub grub (O'Hagan's excellent sausages feature strongly). Old-fashioned atmosphere (in a good way), no smoking restaurant area. Provides a platform every Sunday night for most of the local bands, jazz on Thursdays. Recommended.

Jazz on the second Thursday of the month. A quartet plus singer.
A good night out in the Summer, but it gets very smokey in the Winter months. Food is good with friendly service

Place looks lively enough. Watch out because it closes at 10.30 on Sundays
