The Football is one of Rugby League Football's most historic pub, close to what used to be Swinton RLFC's Station Rd Ground. Sorry to see another of my favourite pubs gone from my youth.

Sad to say, went into this friendly pub on 28 February, and found that today was its last day of trading. Kitchen has now moved to the Oddfellows Arms on Bolton Road.

Good and friendly during the week, full of Chavs at the weekend. I was a regular at weekends for 10 years before they took over

Great little pub, outstanding value for money on lunchtime meals, with proper meat and everything!!

not bad but to many armchair reds who "cant get a ticket"

The Football did have the wrong kind of football (soccer) on its sign outside but thankfully this has put been right. It now shows a picture of a rugby player being tackled as he kicks the ball. Inside it has had a facelift with an array of rugby league pictures on the walls. Much better.

The Football was named after the local Rugby Football League team and a lot of spectators were regular customers. However, since the Lions went ex-borough, it has lost a lot of its (er) quaintness, and it changed its pub sign from a rugby ball to a soccer-bollock. Last time I was in there (c. 1999) it was a dump, best avoided.
