A great old village pub, great ales and beers really well kept, great home cooked food at reasonable prices. Lovely and friendly bar staff. Recommended !!

Been twice recently - first on Valentine's Night when we had a superb meal at a very reasonable price. Went again last week and my starter of a poached duck egg over buttered spinach with Mornay sauce and dipping soldiers was absolutely sublime. Cannot remember a better starter ever ... and I AM particular! A good varied menu with something to suit all tastes. Highly recommended.

Now under new management ( 14 /10/2009) last one went bump. Been refurb'd by Punch Taverns, but the menu has nothing like the choice that it had before.

I passed it tonight, and it was all dark

Rumour has it that the Dog has closed down. Can anyone confirm this?

Just had my Sunday lunch in the Dog. Brilliant! Doctor Okell's Eastern Spice ale was superb with just the right level of heat on the back of the throat. And the Ansell's Mild was excellent. A pub that serves excellent food rather than a restaurant that serves ale.
Well done! Highly recommended.

Now even better - what a beautiful refurb So cosy and inviting, same high standards same great atmosphere a gem of a pub

Great pub with brilliant staff and very high standards. Beer, wine or food - any combination you can't go wrong. Seems to be an oasis of Adnams and Greene King, 100 miles from Suffolk (no complaints!)

I HAVE JUST HAD YET AGAIN ANOTHER FANTASTIC NIGHT AT THE DOG, THEY ARE SO FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL - I EVEN GOT A FREE WINE SAMPLE AS I WAS UNSUURE WHICH WINE TO CHOOSE. GREAT ATMOSPHERE I WILL BE BACK SOON

I have just returned home from the dog at wittington and my view of this pub has gone down to rock bottom we have always enjoyed ameal there and the staff very friendly but im afraid things have changed. The food was cold although we were first to be served, the scampy was all batter no filling, salad sparse and no tomatoe and the garlic bread was like cold dough. The red wine had to be returned twice with a film floating on top of it

Good pub. Lively atmosphere especially on a Sunday after a good weekend of results by the locally supported cricket team. Lovely barmaids!

This is vibrant country pub with a superb atmosphere. The independant British pub done to perfection. Friendly landlord and staff. Good local beer. Excellent food. Real fire. Friendly locals. I visit it once a fortnight and it is fabulous place to spend an evening (or stay overnight). Everyone I have ever taken there jas soon starting taking other friends there too.

Friendly historic village pub with beamed ceilings and lots of horse brasses. Good food including sandwiches and resturant menu. Car park and patio with seating. Real ale including 'Landlord' bitter
