Was closed for a while, but has now been refurbished and reopened under the name of The WICK. The decor is sort of minimalist grey (not very inspiring). The bar is straight ahead as you enter – to the left and right are narrow areas featuring gidh stools and tables. Further back to the right is “the Little Winery” – a new area with cage stule plastic chairs and wine bottles arounf the walls. There is also (to the front) an old fireplace which is completely occupied by an enormous sofa !
There were 5 handpumps, but only two of them appeared to be in use. I tried the Dancing Duck Ay Up – which was OK. They are now concentrating on food here, and the menu featured sections headed Pizzas (all £8), burgers and “nibbles”. I didn’t eat so can’t comment further.
I have to report that service was pretty dire. Despite there only been one other couple in the pub, it took me almost 5 mins to get served.

This was the 12 (and final) stop of my latest Derby tour – so not surprisingly I can’t remember a lot about it ! However, I do remember being pleasantly surprised that is was much better than previous posters had led me to believe. There were 4 real ales available, including two from Dancing Duck. I tried the Abduction which was very nice. Not wildly exciting, but a pleasant enough place, and better than the other places in the immediate vicinity.

Had a very poor pint of Batemans Rosey Nosey on when I went at the beginning of the year, it was warm and slighty cloudy. Barmaid seemed to have no communications skills. Not a place I'd rush back too!

Not happy with the 'Wick. Have visited twice in recent weeks and it seems a case of a previously good pub gone downhill in pursuit of a quick buck. No real ales, poorly kept keg beers (Carling, Fosters etc) and a general feeling that the place needs a bit of care from a proper pub custodian rather than trying to make cash trading on past reputation when the pub was ran well by enthusiastic and skillful landlords..
They have Italian 'SKY' tv which hardly works and has no commentary so there goes an end to the busy nights for big sporting occasions.
Sad demise

Beer is ok - usually has Black Sheep Best and Wells' Bombardier on. Otherwise, the usual array of commercial lagers and spirits at ok prices.
A bit lifeless and isn't the most welcoming of places during a week night.
OK for watching the footy and a cheap pint

Not bad at all. Not in the Good Beer Guide 2009, but I certainly had no complaints about the pint I had in there.

This pub is no longer in the Good Beer Guide after one or more changes of landlord/tenant in the last couple of years. Beer range is much reduced as is the quality. Good place to watch football due to the big screens, but no longer worth calling in for the beer.

Very plain town-pub with only OK Tetleys, saved only by extremely friendly bar staff on a Sat night - bemused by Beer Guide listing in supposed real ale capital (ha !)

Popped in early Saturday evening after noticing it's addition to the 2007 GBG. Four ales on handpump with a substantial list of those to come on display. A too-loud football commentary and a rather boisterous younger crowd made for a less than relaxing atmosphere for anyone wanting a pint and a chat. Maybe I'm just getting old?

Popular pub with the footy crowd, though not overly loud and raucus. The have sport on the screen. Usually quite busy at a weekend. They do food too, though possibly not in the evening. Guest ales, nice beer. Good to stop off at for one or two on an evening out or some reasonable grub during the week.
