Just to confirm, the Railway at Heatley is very much closed: not only burnt down but demolished. Only a bare site is left. This is an ex-pub. It has ceased to be. A pity, because it was a good pub in its day (several years back).

this hotel mysteriously burnt down this morning 2 november 2011.Asad end to a rather fin example of railway architecture.

This pub has regrettably been closed since Autumn 2007. A great shame as it was the last truly traditional, multi-roomed pub in the area. No doubt another victim of the smoking ban.

Was closed last time I passed. Went severely downhill when the old landlord left a couple of years ago taking his ceiling mounted air filters and cellar skills with him. Real shame as it used to be a proper pub with a snug, lounge, pool rooms, darts room and NO CHILDREN in some rooms (excellent!). The replacement landlord was a right miserable so and so who would rather watch his cronies playing poker than keep/serve good ale. Damned shame as this was once a fine watering hole with good ale and bar food limited to basic rolls and pickled eggs!

Was closed when i passed on Wednesday. For Let sign outside. Hope whoever gets it will sort out this grand old pub!!!

Agree totally with the comment below. CAMRA are certainly talking crap here. VERY VERY unfriendly. VERY VERY bad pint of black sheep on several occassions. Could be a great pub.

Been to this pub twice now on the basis of it selling Landlord and it being a long-term entry in the Good Beer Guide.
On the first visit I had a pint of Landlord which was unrecognisable as such. It was so differentI was wondering if it was a different beer being sold as Landlord. Went again two days ago. Landlord on this occasion was better but was barely acceptable. Very expensive: pint of Landlord and a pint of Pepsi was 4.60.
Bar staff on both occasions were surly and unreceptive to chat - possibly due to me not being a regular.
Pub itself is OK: old Boddington's pumps on display in one room and a magnificent range of pumpclips displayed above the bar.
Based on the beer I've had in there I can't see why this pub is in the GBG every year: I suspect it's one of those pubs that gets in because the local CAMRA branch are 'well-in' there and because it sells a wide range of beers. That latter reason alone is enough for a lot of pubs to get in there nowadays.

Really nice pub, with a good real ale selection, worth the visit

Great stopping off point for the trans Pennine Trail. Food basic, but excellent, beer good, a real, genuine old fashioned pub feel to it. How a pub used to be, and still should!
