I really love it here. We discovered the pub about a year ago and go monthly now. The portions are fairly small, but ample for us. There is plenty of choice and I have never had a bad meal. I adore the chips too. I have eaten chips in many pubs, and none are as nice as the chips in the Red Lion. Always book on a weekend as they do get really busy.

Meals are better under the new management but service is dire as is the beer, one girl dealing with 3 groups of people having xmas parties. Took 3 hours insted of 2 to finish meal. Beer very limited as well.

Small portions with slow service, limited choice of beer. Could do a lot better.

I had a meal with family and friends on lunchtime September 25th. The experience was just the same as Chirple's. very good, friendly and efficient service, good food and a good pint of Adnams beer. A very enjoyable lunch.

We went in here after a walk on Monday 20th at about 2.40pm.The bar area was not busy.We enquired about food and the Barman was very friendly, helpful and attentive advising us on ordering our food where we could sit and if we wanted a tab set up.We ordered two pints of the Adnams Bitter which was very good.Adnams Broadside was also available as well.I ordered the Vegetarian Butternut squash and bean pie with the sweet potato chips and salad. My other half had the Moroccan style lamb burger with sweet potato chips and salad. The food was served within 15 minutes, nicely presented and a reasonable portion. My vegetarian dish was tasty and not a poor substitute for a meat dish.I am not vegetarian. My other half's meal was good too.The friendly barman brought me another pint of Adnams as we were sitting outside. The Gents toilet was clean with soap and water and a working hand dryer. For a Pub Chain this was very good particularly the Barman's attitude as he finished his shift whilst we were there but was still helpful up to his finishing time. His female colleague was also very pleasant when i settled the bill at the end.

Extremely smiley and polite. Portions small as the last reviewer said. Was full of old people at 6.45 on sat night, had to wait for a table. When we left at 8pm the place was half empty.

Typical crossroads pub used by horse and carriage in the 1800s. Can get busy as near 2 towns. My experience is slow service and small portions of food therefore expensive, 2 draft ales at the time I called in 17.02.10. Difficult to catch the sun in the summer sitting outside as Pub is set low with many surrounding trees giving shade to the outside sitting area. Popular with walkers who quickly fill the pub up when they come back from there walk.

Food ok, especially the chicken and mushroom pie. But music played far too loudly - for benefit of staff rather than customers maybe.

this is ok for the family type place, good for kids etc..............

Fantastic restaurant, has the Five winds farm sausage and mash! Homemade mash not brought in muck. Highly recommend it and nice to see local food on the menu

I don't agree with the "noisy student types" bit in the other review. This is a place to bring Gran for some reasonable food (Brake Bros?) not to have a beer with the lads. Unfortunately.

Great menu, and lovely outside area to enjoy a relaxed meal(great for 'ladies that lunch!' Weekend evenings can be rather noisy in the main bar areas, but only with lively chatter from the student types that gather there for drinks. All in all, a friendly pub/restaurant.
