CLOSED : Now closed permanently. The whole area is supposed to be going to be redeveloped, but that has been going to happen for the last 20 years ...

I'd intended to visit the Gaffers Row much earlier last Sunday. But on arrival shortly after 10am, I found it closed. This was apparently something to do with some blocked pipes. presumably as a result of the cold weather. I returned much later in the evening and rather amusingly, I was followed through the door by a happy landlord from another local pub who had been taking all of Wetherspoons' customers throughout the day. Apparently they had not been able to open until 6pm. Nevertheless, it was back open. But it wasn't really worth the wait. Bar staff were friendly and offered a taster of one of the ales. They had the usual Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best, along with 2 guests from Lymestone - Stone Faced & Ein Stein and an Everards collaboration brew - Kawasaki Red Ale. Cider was Old Rosie. Feels like it has a lighter, more modern décor than many other branches and is convenient for the town bus station, which is just behind the building.

Bog standard smaller Wetherspoons with a reasonable range of ales: the Slaters Green Hop was fine and at £1.55 + a Wspoon voucher who can complain?
|
Poor choice of ales and a bit scruffy and sticky tables and bar. Usual wetherspoons clients.
|
Typical Wetherspoons - though the ale (tried a few Titanic brews) was as good if not better than other offerings in the town. Handy for the bus station.

Not easy to find for a Wetherspoon pub being on the Northern edge of the town centre, and a pretty standard one of its type; not particularly good or bad. My pint of bitter was fine, and the breakfast pretty good as well, so all in all a satisfactory experience. Normal Wetherspoon early lunchtime clientele.

Another Wetherspoons pub, ale is good enough for a visit, set in the heart of the Town center.

It's not THAT bad ! I'm usually in there at least once every weekend, and the clientele isn't that bad. Can't say about the evening though. Place is reasonably tidy, beer is usually reasonable, though choice of guests is usually limited to 1 or 2. Suffers from usual Wetherspoons problems of lack of bar staff and cold food, though that seems to have improved recently.

The previous review is pretty much spot on, and the blue tiling out the front makes it look like a cross between a swimming baths and a WC,6/10

One of the crappier Weatherspoon's pubs. Food is pretty naff and the clientelle are pretty much what you'd expect to find in a cheapo Crewe boozer - chavs, grizzled pensioners, dullards with horrible snot-nosed kids running round, etc.

Not bad Spoons pub. I opted for the Pickles ale and a traditional breakfast all of which came to less than a fiver. Service was good though one of my friends didn't get his baked beans with his breakfast.
The interior decor is very modern as are the toilets though there is a gas fire in the middle of the pub.
All in all I was satisfied with the experience though as I was only there in the middle of the day I can't vouch for what it's like in the evening...

oaps drinking their pension by day, almost deserted by 9pm even on weekend nights. not bad though, staff are friendly enough. beer is looked after and cant say i've ever had a bad pint in there. does attract a few morons on ocassion sadly.

best place to go if you are a drunk

full of pi$$heads

Better than the Wetherspoon's pub in Congleton. Can get full of locals with character, who get sloshed on the cheap booze.
