The pub itself was ok and tucked away in a pleasant part of town.
But £4.00 for a pint of Carlsberg is too much and that is why I don't really like these St. Austell brewery owned pubs.

Hello southfields, sorry to be so long in replying, I am glad we belong to the same St Albans based company. Although I hail from the northern side of the Thames I do spend many weeks holidaying and drinking in Cornwall. We tend to drink mainly lunchtimes in Snozzel, the evenings are spent traipsing around Mev.(the Ship and Fountain are hostelries) We do not do B&B but I am told the White Hart is ok to stay. Not much goes on in Charlestown after the tourists leave.

Dear Kernow...you appear to know the area and pubs very well. Can you suggest a pub in St Austell with BB for one or two nights? A friend suggested that St Austell was a bit "rough" and to stay in Charlestown instead....but hey, we live in South London - do we need to be wary of staying in St Austell? We are both CAMRA members. Thanks

Had a fine lunch; and some good ales, an enthusiastic barmaid this time.

Perhaps not surprising that such exercises in pedantry have led to a silence of almost three years. Still, the pub remains a good one: beer fine; generous portions of reasonably priced food.

Please learn to read, there is a comma after enthusiastic.

You can't beat a helpful, enthusiastic and unusual barman.

Popped in for a drink at lunchtime. The barman was very helpful and enthusiastic, unusual. The beer was well kept, we both had a very full and tasty sandwich, most of the space was taken up by locals having lunch and enjoying it. Well worth a visit.
