Reopened as a Wadworth's pub in 2017. Yesterday's Horizon was OK as was the food but there's nothing special about this place.

A rambling roadside Greene King pub on the busy A46 that still has its flagstone floors, wooden beams and some comfortable Chesterfield chairs. Clearly they prefer diners rather than drinkers as our first words of welcome were "Are you eating tonight?" ("Yes, but not here"). The menu looked a or two over the odds for standard fare. Beer was Old Speckled Hen, IPA and Abbot Ale. The sort of place you might return to if asked out by friends.

This place is a textbook example of an ancient, important, roadside inn that has had every inch of character and history expunged from it by the dead hand of corporate brewery/Pubco interferences. The present building is a mishmash of various badly done extensions to the original structure that once housed the local Foresters Assizes Court for the southern end of the Forest of Arden, not that you would know it now. The pub itself is a distinctly average, board-room sanitised affair. Beers are standard Greene King stable, food is rather overpriced and to my taste, very bland. The only saving grace of the place is the serving staff and managers, who to their credit, are very pleasant, bright, talkative and do an extremely good job at looking after you. All in all though, not a place I would go back to by choice.

Had a group booking at the Stag yesterday. Staff were all polite to a fault, quite friendly, nice atmosphere in the place.

The food wasn't overly expensive, the beer was good. There were a variety of areas to sit, with some free acoustic music just beginning as we left. Realy couldn't fault the place.

Yesterday afternoon, The Stag was not busy, food was OK, maybe a little pricey, but the service was sooo slooow. There seemed to be plenty of staff, all milling about but to little purpose. By the time we received drinks and food we were pressed for time. I asked for the bill twice, stating that we needed it quickly, after 20 minutes, had to get it myself. Other guests had problems with "piping hot" dishes served stone cold, incorrect bills and slow service. More style than substance.

Very good for food. Quite cosy if you get a nice seat. Staff are nice and the beer is alright. Bit of a treck to get to though.

I recently ate here and received possibly theworst meal of my life. The food was cold and bland, no thought or time seemed to have gone into the dish. The surroundings were odd to say the least with what felt like railway carriages as seating areas providing a tiny enclosed space to eat. The pub used to be quite nice but whoever teh current landlor is, in my opinion, has ruined it.
