The Folly is a strange pub. On entering it looks a bit dowdy. Only one real ale on offer IPA but it was in excellent condition. The welcome from the staff was very friendly & genuine. We had booked a table but it was in a busy area, my wife asked if they had another table. They moved us to a quieter part of the pub with no problem. The food is very reasonably priced & of a good standard. When you consider the amount of casual visitors that pass through the Folly they could get away with less. I can only compliment them on their high standards & good value. The pub may look a little care worn but they are certainly worth their plus 8 rating.

Very popular Greene King pub on the water. Unsurprisingly, given the location, quite a few boaty people in. Although I agree with Lipster that it's no bad thing. Big outdoor and indoor areas, with plenty of tables set aside for dining. Large menu with ever changing specials. Mains around the 10 mark. Only one local beer (Goddard's Special) which I found a bit bland, with Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale also on tap. Wine drinkers were kept happy by the selection on offer. While the food was reasonably priced and decent (great pie), I did think the drinks were a bit expensive. Booze and softs, with a half of Coke 1.85. Excellent service and friendly staff which is always worth an extra point or two. TV with BBC News rolling around constantly and a pool table at the back. Went back for a second visit, so can't have been that bad...

Lovely pub in a fantastic location serving excellent beer and food. Service was excellent although it was very busy.

If you can survive the evil potholes on the approach road, it's well worth finding this place. I took the "ignore national beer" option and had a local Isle of Wight beer - Goddard's Special - which was delightful and perfect supping for the sunshine. The duck wrap I ordered was good too. Despite the food queue, the food came quickly. Not the most obvious area to go to, but we could have stayed all afternoon had we not had the small matter of a wedding to attend in the nearby church. Boaty, but in a good way!

What a fantastic pub. I have visited IOW twice for the music festivals. However I have spent more time in this place than the festival itself! The folly inn has reached a cult status as some stars have been known to pop in before they perform. Keith 'cheggers' chegwin was in the house when I was there. Wa hey!

I'm pleased to say that this remains an excellent, friendly pub with excellent service and atmosphere.
My son and I visited on Easter Sunday evening and had a meal (the manager - Alan? - managed to find us a table, despite it being very busy,) and a few pints of "April Fool" (no comment!) which was good, if a little below perfect temperature for my taste, but it did get better!
The live music and table dancing (that's dancing ON the table, for the uninitiated) conitinue to be a well established and welcome tradition

Remains one of my favourite destinations on the Solent. Long may it continue

This is simply the best Pub I've found on the Isle of Wight. At busy times it does take a while to order food, but once ordered it arrives at the table promptly, and I've never had a bad meal there yet. Decent beer on tap too.

I just love this place, lovely ambience, owners and staff and friendly, wooden floors and views over the river. Food is fantastic and not too expensive. Had half pint of prawns with crusty brown bread mayonnaise and fresh lemon for under 6. Fillet steaks with all the trimmings and a tasty diane sauce (didnt taste packet made for once) for 16. Im going christmas day for a 5 course lunch at 50 cant wait

Had a lovely meal here on a busy night, queued for food for a while, but as soon as sat back down the starters arrived, 10 out of 10, good live music, great beer and tasty food.

Had a great meal here on the way to the ferry yesterday. Service was good and friendly too. The food was excellent with plenty of well cooked veg (not soggy). I would reccomend it, it has lovely river views and plenty of outside seating.

Good food Good Well kept choice of Ales. Ideal for sunday lunch before we have to sail back up to Southampton

This is my local pub, gets busy in the sailing season. I am very fond of this pub. Meals are good and Beer is good quality.

Used to use the Folly from 1968 to 1974. Left the Island in 1980 and now live in Detroit,USA. It used to be a great place and I'm sure it still is. Dave Boxall, Joss Boxall, Ian Connor, Kevin Hambley, Bob Gladdis, Bill Gough, Mick Cook, George Lacey and many many more. Wish I could just walk down the lane and have a couple of beers.
Cheers

Went on a Saturday evening a couple of weeks ago. Surprisingly lively for the location with lots of very young girls dancing on the tables (much to the delight of Mr Lunch) to the sound of a lone guitarist/singer. Well kept Flowers ales and the food (steak) was pretty good, fast service and reasonably priced. Recommended.

Have been going to this pub for about 30 years, so must have been good all that time. However, yesterday we went there for Sunday lunch and it was the worst meal we have had for ages. "Sunday roast" tasted awful - "roast lamb" looked and tasted like beef, was hard, dry and probably frozen slices rather than freshly cut, the roast potatoes were soggy, the vegetables cold. Our complaints made no difference. The crab sandwich looked and tasted horrible. May try this pub once more but if the food is no better we will sail to one of the many good pubs in the Solent
