Had lunch here on the way to Scotney Castle, and was very impressed. The building itself is old and interesting, the welcome was friendly, and the food was very good. Nothing pretentious, just good pub grub, and the service was very efficient even though it became quite busy while we were there. Would definitely go back.

On a cold grey February day there's nowhere I would rather be than in a warm friendly English country pub. Give me a decent pint of Harveys Best, a log fire, the Daily Telegraph provided by the pub, (a small thing but so rare nowadays), a steak and kidney puddin' that tasted just like me Mum's and I would be one happy punter. Well this pub ticked all the boxes and at reasonable prices. Well done!

I can't say anything good about this pub, the service was awful, food was thrown in front of us and of a poor quality. The gammon steak was overcooked and looked like it had lost its middle (which the chef attempted to hide by strategically place fried eggs on top)! The plate was swimming in a mixture of water (I guess from not draining the peas) and oil (must have been from the fried eggs). No one asked us if our food was ok during the meal and rude service yet again when it was collected. I definitely won't be visiting again!

If you have children, do not go here. You are made to feel extremely unwelcome fom the time you walk in the door to the time you leave. They have a serious attitude to children (and ours are well behaved). Never again.

Surprised to see this listed in the Kent edition of the Camra beer guide book as one of their top ten destination pubs. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely pub serving fantastic homely cooked food, but beer wise they've only got two engines serving ale, and one of those was off, leaving just the Harvey's. Boo.

Three years ago I said: "Excellent country pub, with top Harveys and plenty of outdoor seating. Very difficult to think of somewhere better to spend a warm summer evening..." Nothing's changed. Fantastic.

Have always liked this pub. A fine traditional old building and a good pint of Harvey's, that usually keeps me quiet but have always have enjoyed the food too. Worth a visit.

Excellent Harvey's beer. Hot food also very good but spoiled by being served on a stone cold plate!

This is a delightful pub. Yes, difficult to get to without a car, but I managed it. The Saturday lunchtime bus gives you about 40 minutes there. Not enough really but maybe, in the brave new world of green taxes and people using cars less, there will be an improved bus service. Or perhaps I've been drinking too much Harvey's Old and floated off into cloud cuckoo land! Yes, the Harvey's Old here was excellent. Best, Armada and Hadlow IPA was also available. Top marks.

I agree that this is a classic pub for Summer, and if I were more locally-resident I would be a regular visitor. As it is my experiences can be so far counted on Captain Hook's bad hand, but from what I found the oub was serving excellent food, equally excellent Harvey's ale, and evoked a genuine, convivial atmosphere through mutual encouragement of men, women and children. Yes, I said children. I usually hate the little mites running around causing havoc without any attempt at discpline from the parents in what should be a primarily adult environment. But here it gelled perfectly. All were well-behaved, and this was something to behold. A family-friendly pub that isn't spoilt but it. Well done.

Nice old pub in attractive rural setting. Harveys house with a good selection of their excellent beers. Visited on a Sunday when it was packed with folks indulging in the Sunday carvery which looked very appetising. I understand that there is a full menu on weekdays, on Sundays ploughmans, sandwiches and baguettes replace this.
I opted for a sausage baguette (generous serving, proper butchers sausage) together with that rarity of rarities, real home made chips!! Nice pud as well (Blackberry and apple crumble).
Outside there is a large garden with plenty of seating and a large climbing frame/slide for children to amuse themselves on. A word of warning - there are quite a few places where small children can escape to as we saw (fortunately he was discovered hiding in behind a shed).
Difficult to get to without a car - there is a sporadic weekday bus service stopping outside which would enable a daytime "mini crawl" as it passes the Brecknock Arms, another Harveys house, a few miles down the road adjacent to Frant station.
