The Wheatsheaf has closed again. The last publicans were really good so if they cannot make a go of it then not much hope unless Chris Evans decides to buy it! Real shame was looking forward to a few summer Sunday pints there.

This is a very good country pub. The menu might have ideas beyond its station sometimes but the food is always well cooked and they also have bar snacks for those wanting simpler fayre or disinclined to dine in the tableclothed dining area. Sunday roasts are very good. Beer selection not great so not worth travelling to just for a pint but I find its always well kept. Downside is that it needs a bit more tlc (a good dusting, window cleaning, table polishing etc) but if you can ignore that and you're in the area looking for something to eat then you're in for a treat.

using the old use it or loose it tactic now. menu is very limited and still has no clear direction. i think sadly this one will fall by the wayside.
|
this is now being run by the fox inn owners...need i say more. see their reviews and ditto
|
went here for lunch...new owners. maybe its just early days but it was very poor compared to what it used to be.
|
this has now joined countless other pubs.....they have gone bust. when will companies like hall & woodhouse learn and support publicans instead of throttling them.
|
i would say that the owners here really need to have some direction. is it a pub, a live music venue or an eatery? i do not believe you can do all things well together.

Staffing level seems to be 'sorted', and a bar snack menu is now being served as well as the main menu. A good local with plenty of custom on a Friday night. The ocasional jazz sessions are great fun.

This pub seemed to be overstaffed, but they rushed to serve me. Two of them to serve a round of two drinks! The young girls behind the bar, who doubled up as waitresses in the food areas, seemed to spend more time hitching up their trousers than serving. Otherwise it is a good country local pub with resturant pretensions. A novel idea is, Fish & Chips "to go", advertised in a local magazine with the suggestion of "have a pint while you wait for your order".

i found the food at lunchtime to be of an adequate standard, if a little 'brake brothers'. the problem here is they only stock that awful hofbrouwer (spelt wrong)

Had several great meals here. The beer was excellent as well. Friendly staff and the place was clean. What else can one say!
