Apologies. There were actually 3 ales on in the Swan. All were from Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter, Old Ale & Christmas Ale.

Harvey's pub that stands in a rather unusual position in Midhurst, in that one side of a road runs one side of the building and the other carriageway is on the other side. Dog friendly place, as the owner has a dog of her own. Harvey's Old Ale was on. The interior is over two levels.

I'd agree with simontheeditor; the inside is a bit of a mess compared with what it could/should look like, but a couple of Harveys Bests went down pretty well on my visit and we were kept amused by the chattering locals, who seemed to come from another planet to the rosy-cheeked, padded jackets that seem to characterize this particular town.

Superb 16th century facade conceals an inside which has been entirely and unsympathetically modernised over the years. Beer disappointing. Fortunately the barmaid could not get the sound system to work otherwise we would have been subjected to over-loud music. All in all perhaps the least satisfactory Harvey's pub I have been to. However the place was busy enough.

The current landlords took the pub over in May 2010 and we had the pleasure of staying overnight and it was a pleasure! We were attending a wedding nearby so the pub's location was ideal. Before we left we had time for a competitively priced pint of real ale and the landlady advised us that if we got back before 1am the door would be open, if later just phone the number on the key fob and she'd let us in. She asked US what time we'd like breakfast (none of your 7.30am-9am nonsense) and we agreed 9.30am would be a civilised time. We returned about 10.30pm and the pub was nicely busy with a congenial crowd gathered outside and in. The room was very comfortable and on a hot balmy evening having a ceiling fan silently whirring all night was a bonus. Being in the roof we were also able to leave the window fully open all night and, despite facing a busy road, had no trouble with traffic noise. In fact the only noise was the church bells directly opposite which started ringing at 9.30am. We slept in one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've every slept in with freshly laundered bedding and the en-suite shower room was very clean with one large and one small soft towel each, two tablets of pure soap and complimentary shower gel/shampoo. There wasn't an alarm clock/radio in the room but I'm quite sure if we'd asked the landlady to wake us at 6am she would have done! Breakfast was ample with cereal available to start, a large box not those small variety pack boxes, followed by a cooked English (2 sausages, 2 rashers of back bacon, a grilled tomato, mushrooms and freshly fried egg) with 3 slices of toast each served with a steaming mug of tea. Real butter and jam or marmalde to finish off the toast if needs be. The landlady was charming and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly. We wish the landlord's every success with this venture.

The Swan Midhurst, as a regular drinker in midhurst I must say this Harvey�s pub has gone strength to strength over the last 6 months its twice as busy as most other pubs in midhurst it�s the place to go for a drink, sky sports, darts & hotel accommodation see you there�

Despite being a Harveys pub, only one Harveys beer was available. No food available on a Saturday lunchtime (or by the look of it at any other time). What's happened to this pub? It used to be excellent.

pleased to see a harveys shop now opened next to the swan, their bottled beers are really tasty.

I was here for the En ger land, Paraguay World Cup game and enjoyed the food as well as the terrific atmosphere in the company of my girlfriend. Having also drunk here on a Saturday night with my girlfriend, it is a fairly decent place to have a chilled drink while listening to some tunes. Given the relatively small size of Midhurst though, there are livelier places to go than spend a Saturday night in this pub or the nearby Crown. Go to Chichester or Petersfield for action, but visit here for a 'quiet drink'.
