West Wycombe is a lovely little area just outside High Wycombe. The George & Dragon is an old coaching inn that is one of a number of pubs on the High Street. It was busy on my Monday evening visit, with a mixture of drinkers and diners. I think I took the last table. The interior had a nice festive feel. St Austell Tribute & Rebellion IPA are the 2 regular ales. Rebellion Roasted Nuts was the guest beer.

Apart from myself and one token 'old man at the bar' everyone else had their drinks brought over to their tables. The rebellion IPA was okay but I didn't like the place - mainly as the clientele whiffed of snobbery and an 'up their own arses' attitude. Probably okay for what it is but not for me.

After hearing nothing but good reviews about the food I thought to give it a try for a sunday lunch with a small group of 8. We had booked a week in advance and when we arrived were told by the manager that we was lucky we had a table as they had been busy ! (thought that was the idea of booking????).
After sitting down and waiting a while to be served we were told that there was no roast potatoes - v disappointing for a place serving sunday lunch at 2pm too so not as if we was late. We even said we would be happy to wait if someone wanted to go to the nearby shop to get some as Roast was the order of the day - we don't do that we was told. We ordered starters, and some of us then decided to have a homemade pie instead. Food order placed we then waited about 30 minutes for the starters to arrived - they looked non appetising to say the least, the smoked salmon starter was literally 3 pieces of plain iceberg lettuce with a dollop of smoked salmon on them and that was it, no colourful sale garnish and I asked if bread came with the £6.95 starter, no I was told but you can have some at an extra cost !!! the other starters also were not presented well at all and were just "ok" not how they should have looked or tasted for the money. We then waited another hour for the minas to arrive ! when they did the pies were completely not cooked ! the pie lids on top were still dough like and we just off white (clearly visible that they were not cooked) the roast dinners that some had were also non appealing to look at and enough was enough. We spoke to the manager a few times throughout this meal about the wait and then the main courses etc and he clearly did not care a hoot. Big shame and when spoke to the people who said it was good there admitted they hadn't been there since about October 2013 so must have gone drastically down hill. Due to the very poor customer service form the manager we will most definatetely not return which is a sham,e as 8 of us live nearby and would have frequented it regularly. Very short sighted treatment that was received. The waiting staff were all good considering what was going on behind the scenes. Went to Nandos in the end which was great.

I wonder if there's new ownership since the previous comments? I have nothing but positive things to say. Us and our baby have been made very welcome by staff and punters, dogs are welcome and although you can't reach the bar for locals on a friday night, they have all been friendly and cheerful.
We have only been going here for the last two months and have been four times, at different days of the week and with food each time. A couple of pints each and a main each will cost around �30 in total. We are working our way through the menu but it's all been excellent so far. Four ales on tap including rebellion and sometimes hobgoblin i cant complain really... Have always been too full for pudding but we're off there now so we'll see!
(try the steak and ale pie, yummy!)

My daughter and partner live nearby and as we just wanted to meet up for a chinwag, she suggested this one, as "it has won awards". It looked okay on the website and the food seemed to be reasonably priced.
Externally it looked a bit shabby and neglected - it hadn't even got a pub sign , just a small name plate which was very easy to miss. The fornt bar was typical old fashioned pub and was probably fine for locals who just wanted to drink. The 'dining room' was four tables in a small back room.
Oh dear! It's obvious the website hasn't been updated for yonks, as prices were all about three quid dearer for main courses. The previous reviewer who mentioned 'Iceland' food was just about spot on. When slow roasted lamb shank hits the table within 25 minutes it's a bit of a giveaway. I chose the herb crusted black pudding with trimmings for my starter and it's the first time I've been given B.P so thin they must have used a bacon slicer.
Two decent real ales on tap - Bombardier and Timothy Taylor's Landlord which was very acceptable.
The biggest off put was Laughing Boy behind the bar, whose hobby seemed to be showing off his merry one line quips to anything said to him by a new customer. But never fear, we had the last laugh. When I got home and checked my receipt for future credit card billing, it seems that laughing boy had forgotten two glasses of Landlord and a whole bottle of wine. What a hoot !

Another one of those pubs which look fine outside, but with an oh so disappointing interior. Beer was good, but had to play 'hunt the filling' with our baguettes. Could be so much better.

If you like being looked at funny this is the pub for you! cheap iceland food your thing? well come on in beers warm and murky dirty glasses the list is endless....

Used to work at this pub as a barman so I'm biased BUT great food, great ales and a good crowd of locals - always pop in for a pint or 10 when I'm back in Bucks!
