Candlestick, Whitehavenback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Good atmosphere, great drinks selection, one of the towns pub highlights.

in reply to yamato's comment, there is a sign with large print situated on the front of jukebox clearly stating that on fridays and saturdays the jukebox will be switched off at 7pm (i did say clearly situated on the front), further more you did not give us the chance to offer you a refund infact you didnt ask!
As for your choice of ale, you had a pint of Double Hop which camra members enjoy daily.
also as for you mentioning 5 bouncers or security proffesional as you say, there actually called door supervisors, there is also a night club situated next door to the pub, do you expect them not to have door supervisors.
you are entitled to your own opinion, fortunatly it is not shared by many others

I was not at all impressed by my visit to this establishment which for some inexplicable reason currently rates as 7 out of 10. There was only one real ale on offer which was over chilled and bland. I was however encouraged to stay by the jukebox which had more than the usual R&B rubbish on offer. After putting 1.50 into the jukebox, I sat back to listen to some old favourites, when to my surprise, the barman unlpugged the machine half way through the first track. For the next few minutes he busied himself doing nothing, all the while avoiding my gaze. Eventually, I mamanaged to ask him what had happened to the Jukebox, as I had only just put in 1.50. His only reply was 'the jukebox goes off at seven'. As I am not a local, how am I to know that! No offer of a refund, not even any hint of an apology. There were around ten people in the pub, was it therefore that important that the jukebox was turned off. This attitude typifies everything that is wrong with the pub trade today, a total contempt for the paying customer. Perhaps I was done a favour, as later that same evening I saw a team of five bouncers (Sorry - security professionals) stood outside. Any pub that needs this level of security surely has problems. If I ever returned to Whitehaven my first, and indeed my last port of call would be the Vagabond.

Last time I was in beer was cloudy & tasted funny. When complained got no sympathy from staff. Just comment about must be ok as "cask marquee".

Agreed, nice pub, if you can fit through the door! Not cheap though.

This is simply by far the best pub in Whitehaven, always a great atmosphere, friendly happy staff and top quality cask ale. The Candlestick is cask marqued and entered in the 2004 and 2005 Good Beer Guides. Often has live entertainment and the decor is different class compared to any other pub in the town.
