The Gallon Pot was the second of the Great Yarmouth pubs we visited. It re-opened around 6 months ago and is situated at the end of the Market Place. But we were surprised by how quiet it was on a Saturday evening. Nevertheless it ensured we had a quiet meal, which was good value for money and the diane sauce on the steak was sublime. Ales were less inspiring, with Marstons Pedigree, Lacons Hoptrick & Woodfordes Wherry on. Staff were friendly but under-worked. Deserves more custom. We moved on from here to the Oliver Twist, which was my favourite pub of our first day in the town. Whilst it's not listed on here, I will request it and it's well worth a visit for a great selection of ales and cider and a very strange clientele with lots of missing teeth!

Visited "Great" Yarmouth to see some relatives and popped into here for a whet.Firstly I had a ask a grey flannel tracksuited, smoking chav to move out of the doorway to get in.Not a good sign. Then I waited ages at the bar for the staff to notice me (it wasnt that busy) whilst hearing a heavilly tattooed, huge 'gold' chain around his neck, muscle vest wearing, baseball cap donned chav swearing his head off.I looked around around and saw what clientele there was and then walked out, after I moved the smoking chav from the doorstep. What ever happened to this lovely, wonderful pub.Avoid at all costs!

How can this pub only have a rating of 6.1??
Very friendly (seemed genuine) service. 4 Real ales on, of which I tried one which was Woodford's Wherry and this was well kept and very reasonable (2.50). Decor old fashioned but not that dated and pub was clean.
Bit of a tired 60s decor inside and a bit gloomy, but 4 real ales on handpumps and the oneI tried was well kept. Mmenu looked good so I might revisit.
We visited July 29th god if not exciting range of real ales, licencee would have kept kitchen open for food as we arrived at 8-55pm! She (sorry, dont know name) seems very keen to make a go at a very tidy pub

Visited this pub yesterday- it's open as usual and offering good beers and food as usual. Temporary closure may have been due to a change of ownership.

Not been to Great Yarmouth recently but have just heard that this pub is currently closed. Given that it's Great Yarmouth's flagship food and ale pub, presumably the closure is only temporary. CAMRA would doubtless be mounting a campaign to prevent any permanent closure, details of which will presumably be posted on here.

Two real ales, a slightly defeated air pervades the place.the service was very polite. The ale I had was Wherry but NOT in great nick.I was struck by the average ordinariness of the place. The only strange event was that the barmaid reached the door about the same moment as i did and so i stood aside for her to go first, her reaction was complete shock, manners must be very rare here abouts!

Reasonably large pub overlooking the market square. Popped in on a Sunday lunch and welcomed by friendly staff. There was a choice of ales: London Pride, Wherry and Adnams Best. Plenty of seating and good value Sunday roast on offer too.
Large pub in the market place. Four hand pumps with a permanent range of Wherry, Adnams Bitter, London Pride and GK's Old Speckled Hen. This pub was on our radar as in The GBG and also as it was in the new Woodforde's Ale Trail. This pub became our food stop yesterday with our group. Beef and Lamb Roasts and steak and ale pies. All the food was pretty good and came quite quickly.

I'm sure i saw Del Boy II in here with his blue trousers and tight shirt drinking gin???

Good beer but extremely expensive- expect to pay over 3.00 a pint. Pub is currently running a 'loyalty' scheme whereby locals can sign up as members and get their food much cheaper. As a result there is a confusing menu which starts off with members pages featuring exremely cheap prices- then you turn over and find the same items far more expensive for the rest of us. This will presumably work well out of season but is likely to result in confusion and angry people walking out when they discover they can't order what other customers are ordering when the holiday season begins.

Excellent pub. Go for lunch several times a year when we visit Great Yarmouth .food is always good, and staff friendly, Prices are what you expect in a seaside town pub.
good food pity you need to take out a loan to get a pint.tip use the coach makers 100 yards over road for pre meal drinks its 60p a pint cheeper.
excellent pub. come here several times a year when we visit the town .food is always good, and staff and atmosphere friendly
Lovely looking pub from the outside. Strongbow fine. Old fashioned 'old man' type pub. An OK place for a start, middle or end of a crawl in Yarmouth. Several other pubs nearby :)
Food is absolutely AWFUL and the management don't care when you complain about it.
