A true classic. Old-school pub with a variety of ales, friendly atmosphere and good food (curries), it was also the original home of the Tindal Street Fiction Group. It is a bit hard to find or at least I found it so, although not very far from my flat so I was cursing myself for not having gone there sooner. I have to give this pub a rarely-awarded 9 out of 10.

Agree with straightnochaser ( review Oct 2013) clean well run traditional pub selling real ale and Indian Food - definately worth a visit

The Old Mo' is a traditional unpretentious Victorian pub run by a friendly couple and is a great place for a quite drink far enough away from the weekend madness of Moseley to be able to get a seat . It features two rooms with a bar in between and an outside covered area. There's always a guest ale on along with HPA, Butty Bach and Enville Ale. Every couple of months there's a beer festival featuring around 12 ales with live music out back. Indian food is available and a juke box with an interesting choise of tunes.

Stopped in here for a swift half yesterday. It's a classic backroom boozer with 2 small rooms and a central bar connecting the 2. No sign of a dog. But it does have a menu featuring plenty of Tandoori food which is served daily except for Wednesday (the chef's day off). A group of lads appeared to be enjoying what they'd ordered. Beer wise, there were 4 ales on - Wye Valley Bitter & Butty Bach, Exmoor Gold & Enville Ale. My Butty Bach was fine. A little out of the way and difficult to fit into any crawl of Birmingham. But still worth the effort.

We are now talking about Proper Pubs - two bars; many original features; great beer; curries in the evening; beer festivals; some music and a genuine feel about it. Read all about the pub's history in the right-hand bar and note the old Ansells sign outside. Didn't come across a dog so can't comment on that. I used the number 50 bus from Moor Street station to get here (get off at Edward Road or Trafalgar Road) and the pub is just off Cromer Road. I did find the prices a bit on the high side for Birmingham (£3.15 a pint or is this the norm these days in this part of the country?) Anyway, don;t miss this great boozer.

Inconsiderate landlord lets his dogs bark even after requests from local tenants to control,Poor dogs seem very unhappy ..

Beautifully kept old town pub, really is treasure with all the original pub features. UInlike many pubs which have been ruined by soul less open plan bars and gimmicks. I knew this pub in the early 1960's and it's like stepping back in time. On Sunday nights the upstairs Chaos club acoustic club is a real musical treat, with a varied mix of Trad, Folk, Country, Jazz, rock and a great atmosphere. Pubs like this should be listed as national treasures

Don't no about the pub but the barking dog must drive local residents mad. Sort it out landlord

Great old town pub. Beautifully kept in it's original style and cleanliness. One of my favourite pubs in england with bags of atmosphere. Good Beer, good landlord and good music, especially every Sunday in the free upstairs music club which features everything from jazz, to folk, country, rock and much more. What more could you want in a pub

Well worth a visit, the ales are excellent, the locals are friendly (if prone to putting Chas n Dave on the jukebox) and we could have happily stayed in here all afternoon.
Also make sure you visit the Lebanese bakery round the corner if feeling peckish.

My mates reckon this is one of the best pubs in Birmingham.....first time I`ve visited it and initially I think it`s ok. Had a real ale festival on at the time and the ones I tried was exceptionally good. Large screen showing England pretending to be good at footie and failing miserably of course! Wasn`t too sure about the mock tudor ceiling beams that looked like lengths of 4 be 2 but had a comfy sort of ambience. Might be bit scary leaving the area late at night though unless it`s in a bulletproof taxi! Worth a visit or three...in daylight

Visited this pub for the first time yesterday. I was very inpressed. The ail was in excellant condition. Unfortunately there was only one guest ail on. I get the impression there are usually two or three. I had a Sunday lunch for just 3.95! It wasn't the best but it was good for the price and I'd happily eat it again. I look forward to going back.

First class beer festival on this weekend. Went in today and they have 10 beers on stillage upstairs. We stayed and had 8 of them plus a Holdens from the bar. Good choice of beers and all in great condition. Well done. The pub has retained all its rooms and has real character.

A proper old fashioned inner-city local with three cosy rooms and a yard for smokers. The Enville (a very pale beer who's name escapes me) and Wye Valley Butty Bach were both eminiently drinkable. Pretty much the only reason to come to this part of Birmingham.

Now a free house, hence the greater range of beers. Was a good pub anyway, so looking forward to seeing it get even better.
|
The quantity of real ales on seems to be increasing. They had 2 guests on yesterday and the one we had was in very good condition. There's a real ale festival on there 10th-12th Dec.
Don't forget, there's another room upstairs with a pool table. There's also a new digital jukebox at 1 for 5 goes, not bad value.
A definite "Oasis" on the edge of Moseley.

Birmingham. Why????? After having work commitments there on and off for the best part of 2 years. I finally discovered something worthwhile in England's so called 'second city'. A pub in the classic sense of the word. The beers were in excellent shape. Locals friendly. Food is limited to pub grub, but its great pub grub and not overpriced. Their Tue and Thur night curries are better than some restaurants I've been to. All in all a pleasant oasis of real ale. As Klaude_Martner mentioned 'well worth seeking out'!

Enjoyed nice pints of Enville Ale and HPA whilst waiting (unsuccessfully) to see some of the test match at Edgbaston. A rather lovely and spicy tandoori chicken panini as well.
|
Friendly Pub, Pretty traditional interior with a cosy lounge and a rowdier bar. Beers on last time I was there were Enville Ale, Purity Ubu, Black Sheep Bitter and Caledonian Deuchars. Not easily found, but well worth seeking out if you live locally.

I agree that this is a fine pub, tucked away half a mile out of moseley village and worth finding. Little bit pokey but always a pleasant and warm atmosphere, never know it rammed though.
|
What a lovely pub. It was very welcoming and the rooms were great with fires burning early evening. No problem with the real ale selection or quality.
|
A fantastic pub with excellent beer and very nice staff. Don't let the lager drinking Landlord put you off. My friends and I only wish we had found this pub years ago.

Great little back street pub

This really is the best pub in Birmingham! The beer, atmosphere and crowd are brilliant, an interesting mix and the bar staff are the sexiest girls around. Very friendly service as well. I really recommend this pub to anyone.

Lovely atmosphere..very friendly barstaff. Drinks selection is really good..something for everyone! Little bit dark, but that added to the character of the pub.
|
I rather like this pub. Old school pub with wood panelling and a bit of character. They serve a good pint (at time of writing included Black Sheep Best and Enville Ginger Beer), in a friendly manner. The standard range of Diageo single malts is also avaliable. I agree with mrBean, seems to be an unusual mix of locals, students and business people, but it's a good-natured mix; everyone seems to get on.
|
Good find this pub.First visit last night. Decent pint, one half of the pub several barge owners were sipping halves other side stranger mix of students, locals and a couple business people. Fake coal fire and Landlord supping Carling were the only let downs. Went off to find another pub in the area and came back here for last orders.
