please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After a walk around Petworth Park, we wandered back to the village to try the Star and the Angel. The Star is a Fullers pub right in the central market square. The beers on were Pride & Seafarers. Nice enough little pub. But probably more suited to the tourists. Now I don't need a bowl for my bag of crisps, thank you!

Been past this pub on numerous occasions. Stopped in tonight on way back from coast. If you like Fullers its a must. HSB very good as well. If you want to sit and watch the world or traffic in this case go by, try it. 7/10.

Stopped in for lunch on the way to somewhere else and was very pleasantly surprised. Nice clean little drinker with a reasonable range of ales and friendly, efficient staff. Unfortunately as I was driving I can only comment on the orange juice (very nice as orange juice goes I suppose). Food was very good. Standard pub menu plus some nice looking specials. Good sized portions too. If I had to be Mr Picky then the toilets although clean could do with a refurb - brighter lighting and some cheerier decor would work wonders. Definitely coming back.

I have been drinking here for a while on an occasional basis. The beer is Fullers based as you would expect from a Fullers pub (reference previous comment).

I have always found the land lord and lady to be most friendly and courteous and the staff in general are very amenable.

The food has always been of good quality and well presented and as yet, the beer has been of a very good standard.

This is a pub I would happily recommend to anyone.

Oh, and the band night kick ass!!

Tried this pub just before Christmas. quite basic for a town centre pub, and not very busy. Staff were friendly, and the bar snacks were simple but tasty. Too many baseball caps around for my personal taste though. The beer was OK, but limited to Fullers.

This pub is still very good. Food was OK, my dish was not quite what I hoped but it was still nice. The pint of beer I had was borderline off but drinkable.

The pub its self is still lovely in a nice location. The staff are very friendly and service is quick and efficient. Prices are average.

Beer good, food excellent and staff friendly. I had a special from the extensive board which was stilton and brocolli quiche. It was sooooo nice.

I would fully recommend the food.

Went into this pub for a quick drink with some friends on the 12th september '09 and when we saw there was going to be some live music we decided to stay, our friends also had something to eat, which they said was excellent. the band called 'alter ego' were superb, all in all a great evening and looking forward to visiting the pub again.

Met family here for a drink and a snack, comforable, good service and a lovely pint. People should realise the price landlords have to pay before moaning about 3.20...... Timothy is a welcoming man, and only met him once. Keep it up, another landlord!!

Yes the Star is back and as reported by others had a bit of a makeover.
However, I went in there the other evening and Fullers London Pride was now costing 3.20/pint. An inflation busting increase. Even rather over priced for Petworth, maybe they are trying to deter drinkers and attract diners, don't know. Have to check out the Stonemasons again.

How fantastic our pub is back bigger and better! Lots of beers and wines to suit anybody's tastes and scrumptious new menus for lunch and dinner, lots of dishes have already been tried personally! Clean, comfortable and will friendly helpful staff a great place to stop for a pint, spend the evening and have a meal or treat the family to Sunday lunch. Don't take my word for it try it yourself!

Being a fussy person, I stopped going to The Star last year. However, after closing for a few weeks, a make over, new landlord new chef, & new staff, I tried again and now eat and drink there regularly. Menu is varied and interesting with something for everyone. If you want something special, they'll do it if they can. No TV, juke box or fruit machines make it everything a pub should be. Somewhere to relax, meet friends or chat with visitors to the town. Try it!

Thank god we have a real pub back, beatifully decorated, character landlord and fresh food with menus changing daily. Thoroughly recommended.

Oh Dear! Sorry to say we were pretty disappointed after searching Petworth for a pub to find only a Fullers pub (What about Harveys)? Not really disputing the Fullers beer as we are from Surrey/South London border, which is where I'd expect to find one. After a half hour wait for a jacket spud and service with a mardy grumble instead of a smile, I think I'd probably sit in the park with a bottle or two and a sarnie instead, if we were in Petwoth again. Fullers! You need to investigate!

As politics enters a new era with Gordon Brown becoming Prime Minister, the pubs and bars of En ger land have also entered a new era. I came to the Star Inn yesterday evening around 8ish (4 July) with a lady friend, being the first boozer I have visited since the anti - smoking legislation was introduced. It was not busy, with a relaxed atmosphere and there was a relatively small covered area outside where a handful of people were smoking. Interestingly, the machine selling cigarettes was switched off.

I drove from Guildford to Petworth mainly along the wonderfully clear and scenic A283, so had a pint of Pepsi, while my lady friend had half a pint of diet Pepsi which both came to a modest 3.10. Simon served us and he was entertaining as well as efficient. My lady friend knew him and he joined us at our table briefly, as it was that quiet. There is a separate eating area here which looks more like a traditional caf and not in tune with the overall dcor of the pub. The main part of the boozer is smart looking with polished wooden dcor, with a few tables/chairs and notably a massive TV screen which would be handy for watching televised sport. There is a games machine also and a couple of jukeboxes.

If in the area I would certainly come here again for a relaxing quiet drink or to watch televised football/cricket. Definitely not one for the H File search given the evident lack of nightlife here (what is it with the plethora of antiques shops though?) and along the A272 generally, for example, Midhurst and Petersfield. Shame the Vertigo nightclub has closed recently in the latter.

Modernised interior, but this old market square inn provides excellent quality real ales from Fullers, and good, simple food cooked freshly at cheap prices. Possibly the best smoke-free pub in the area thanks to a modern extractor system. Serves the local community and visitors alike. Recommended.

Unfortunately the only pub now left in Petworth town center. It's functional, but the food is really nothing to get excited about. Very smoky although it does have non smoking area (still smoky!). Worth the extra effort to go out the the Black Horse, Byworth.
