Can only echo catbert's comments below, a smart looking pub BUT on a friday night only two out of six pumps available (Pride and a rugby themed seasonal ) and everyone drinking lager. This pub is spitting distance from the brewery, for f**ks sake!

Nice looking pub and also near the Fuller's Brewery, Serves London Pride, Chiswick Bitter and Honey Dew.
|
Nice staff, pleasant place, but for a pub right next to the Fuller's brewery the range of beers left a lot to be desired. Just two pumps on: one the seasonal, the other a watery pint of Pride.
|
Another Fullers pub on the opposite corner from the brewery and overlooking the Hogarth Roundabout. Fullers beers available were London Pride, Discovery & Chiswick. The bar area was packed with people watching the start of the England game. A pool table was being used near the window. Relatively uninspiring and I couldn't quite see the need for a bouncer on the door.

Situated close to Fullers Brewery, the River Thames and also on the edge of the notorious Hogarth roundabout is the George and Devonshire, a Fullers pub with two adjoining, but distinctly separate bars.
The public bar is what it says on the tin - a basic, bare boarded room dominated by a snooker table, dartboard and TV. Curiously, it's in this bar, where most of the customers seemed to be of the lager swilling fraternity, that there's a dartboard describing the characteristics of the Fullers beers. It's also here that we learn that the George and Devonshire is "where Dick Turpin is said to have tied Black Bess and strolling players performed Shakespearean plays in the 16th Century to the nobility and gentry of Chiswick village."
The saloon bar is well appointed with flowers in vases on the tables and more of a food emphasis than I remember from previously. On my recent evening visit, a live music band was just setting up their instruments and equipment, taking up much of the space in the room. This room leads to an impressive and elegant function room, which, most notably, I can't remember ever noting it as being used for anything.
There's some outside seats at the front on the pavement where you can watch the traffic negotiating the roundabout. A quieter and more pleasant area is at the back of the pub, accessed from the lounge bar.
The London Pride - 3.20p - was reasonable. The pub is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular.
This is a pleasant enough pub, but not worth a detour.

At last this pub has sorted itself out! I used to work at Lamb House and we'd occasionally go here for lunch but the staff were so unfriendly and they were forever running out of beer, so it was no surprise I used to go past and see the place half empty. The food was awful too. I went back last weekend when we were having a stroll down the river and it was packed. A really happy atmosphere, and, as someone else on here commented, some very sharp musical choices playing. There's also now a retro games corner, and it's not your usual tatty old Scrabble and such like, but genuine collector's items! There's a very funny and interesting guide to their history on the bar too. But best of all is the Summer Menu which makes this the only place in Chiswick that does traditional British food at a sensible price. It's obviously decided to resist the gastro route but go for cheerful honest grub. I had the Welsh Rarebit which was scrumptuous (apparently made with a dash of Guinness) and my wife had a Quiche Lorraine she raved about. The beers are first class, and the manager was very friendly, especially, since he and one other barmaid were running a large function at the same time as serving lunch without appearing remotely stressed! He also recommended to us Fullers Discovery with a lemonade top and I'm now hooked on the stuff. Definitely going back.

Cosy pub even nearer the Fullers brewery and unfortunately also near the A4, a nice old building even if it isn't as traditional as, say, the Duke of York, it is still more so than the Devonshire and unlike the Feathers it is still standing (that was on the opposite side of the main road).

Excellent beer, as you would expect from a pub literally spitting distance away from the brewery. Some interesting prog rock on the stereo as well. a good pub
|
Decent well kept cask ales available in a spacious pub.
Haven't tried the food.
|
I remember when this pub was managed by Fullers - it was neglected by the brewery. It has been revived and is now a kind of oasis beside the A4. They have a board outside which says 'Come over to the other side', which is their slightly spooky way of advertising the garden. The pub goes back to 1657, in the original building, and has a character barman who appears to have been there all that time! Beer's good, food good, dont want much more.

nice pub good beer... Limited but nice selection of well kept cask ales (Fullers), and some decent lagers. Popped in Tuesday afternoon, and found the ales very well kept, three on tap. My lager was nice and cold This place had a lovely atmosphere when I went in on Friday night. The place was packed with the young, hip business crowd from the Hogarth Business Park, along with a crazy party of Sex Pistol freaks from God knows where. Just got new chefs, apparently, and is now doing food in the evening.

Great pub with great beer and great food, barstaff are extreamly freindly especially the new manager she seams to be injecting a new lease of life into this traditional old english pub.
|
I think this pub's great. Lots of characters, both sides of the bar!!
|
Nice bar with a good function room. Bar staff OK if a little surley. Would go back though.
|
proper quality boozer with friendly staff and good beer garden, worth going back to if i am in london again

Large and ever so slightly charmless Fullers pub across the street from the brewery. Serves a good pint, as you'd expect. Very spacious, but sadly that (and the location by busy traffic) just seems to sap the atmosphere.
Interestingly they seem to do proper guest beers from other breweries, judging by the old pump clips stuck up behind the bar. Surprising considering its virtually a brewery tap.

Do they still do cheesy chips? That was a definate bonus. Glad to hear it's changed hands - the couple who ran it in 1999 were terribly miserable - and woerking just up the road our company spent a fortune in there!
|
Typically bland and characterless modernised Fullers pub close to the brewery and the notorious Hogarth roundabout. A good location for sitting outside and inhaling the traffic fumes on a hot summers day.
This pub has little, if anything, to commend it in my book.
Instantly forgettable
|
Other than being right next to the Fuller's brewery, very little to distinguish this pub from many others. Does get a point for well-kept beers (which must be the freshest in town, given the location!)
|
Nice local pub. Has recently been refurbished but still retains its traditional character. The new tenancy has definitely improved things, they now have a more varied selection of food as well.
Admittedly its rather noisy if you sit outside facing the Hogarth roundback. Fortunately there's a good sized beer garden out the back too.
|
Recently changed to a tenancy and things are looking up. Some changes made and i understand others in pipeline, worth a try and now has a guest ale as well as Fullers. Worth a visit even if you had gone off the place.

Big thumbs down to this place. Unfortunately, this is my local pub yet I would much rather walk the 10/15 minutes along the Thames to the Old Ship, Black Lion or The Dove for a bit of character and cosy inviting atmosphere. This pub has no character whatsoever and I hate the fact that it is split into two as it makes it smaller. It doesn't make any sense!! Both sides are equally as drab and extremely spit and saw dust. It never seems to get busy but I have only been there twice, but then why would I go again to find that out!? Another stupid feature to this pub is that it is the closest and most local Fuller's pub next to the Fullers brewery, yet it has the most rubbish selection of Fuller's beers! Where is the Honey Dew???!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
The right atmosphere for a 'proper' pub. I've found staff really friendly and helpful
|
Has lost much atmosphere and character since the recent refurbishment - very disappointing
|
Perfect for watching the cars go round Hogarth Roundabout as they shot off down the A4/A3. Still spit into Lounge/Public Bar - although there is little difference now in decor. Can mean you have to wait for the staff to finish their conversation in the other bar before you're served - It dosen't matter which bar you're in.. they'll always be in the other one! Locals & members of Iron Maiden frequent.
