Wow, this has changed a bit in the twenty years since I was last here. No dirty biker bar anymore. No Duckhams avaiable either! Just a boozer now, a bit neon/bright for lunchtime. Reasoanbly attentive bar staff, friendly clientele (mainly there for the cheap booze - there seems to be a lot of cheap boozers in Newcastle). One hand pulled beer on at 1.70 a pint. Can't remember what it was, possibly Bombardier, and it was fine.

What a great pub as a Londoner and my first time in newcastle I found the the people welcoming the atmosphere fantastic the music great and the prices alot less than London would 100% recomend this place (allan shearers the boy)

Used to be a proper bikers bar back in the 70's, now I don't know what it's supposed to be. The few times I've been in lately the beer has been poor - even the couple of glasses of coke I got were vile.
Avoid.

Dont mind the odd pint in The Percy. Normally full of regulars through the day spending their benefits but its ok. Normally get a decent pint!

It used to be the place to see loads of bikes pared outside on a satufrday night (I was one of them) and there were tales of the manager parking his bike in the bar, but the biker bar seems to have died a bit, and the clientelle have mostly drifted on. Shame.

'smoke on the water, a fire in the sky'. Any further comments needed? Oh they sold a lot of snakebite when I was in, in fact I'm sure they advertised a 'cocktail'called a 'Castrol', which was snakebite with someting green dropped in it-could have been creme de menthe, I didn't stick around to find out!

Prefer the old version when you had an array of expensive bikes parked outside that no-one dared touch. Now it's just another bar to avoid on the fast fading Haymarket circuit along with the Goose and the Three Bulls. Thank God for the Hottie.

Great music and atmosphere. Rough around the edges, but always good to see that regular guy with the afro loitering at the bar. Lots of spit and a little sawdust.

The Percy is not a place to go for quality beer as such. It's not a place to go if you don't want Thin Lizzy blasting out from the jukebox. However, if you want to be blistering rock music to play pool to this is the place to go in Newcastle. The Percy has a bit of a cult following and you seem to either love it or hate it. It's not been quite the same since it was done up but it still oozes character and maybe a little sweat too.

Friendly and efficient staff. Reasonable prices. One of the few city centre pubs with a pool table and a jukebox. Also shows live football.
