World's End, Patchingback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
We went to the World End last night with some friends for what we expected to be a pleasant evening out with a nice meal. This was as a result of visiting another pub within the same chain a few months ago in Dorset. On that occasion we received a lovely reception, a really nice meal with excellent service and all within a lovely atmosphere. What a contrast! At The Worlds End we walked in and were met by a barman who, after almost walking away, turned and said “Yes”. We introduced ourselves and were then told “Your on table 2. Its down the end on the left”. “Oh, and you’ll have to order at the bar as we’re short of staff”. Well, we found the table (by the toilets and the door to the garden that some kids kept running in and out off) and duly went and ordered ‘at the bar’. We were then told that 3 of our 4 choices were off the menu as they were out of stock! Eventually our starters arrived only for one of them to be stone cold and the others to be very poor quality. The entire meal was a disaster, badly cooked and poorly served. What atmosphere there was just made us want to leave. We would never go back here again.

We live in Hampshire and regularly meet friends from Sussex for a pub lunch. We've tried a few in this area over the years (Findon, Clapham, Hammerpot), most recently The Fox and now the World's End in Patching.
Admittedly we want no more than a snack-ish meal, but on our first few visits to the World's End we've been very happy with it. It is one of the few pubs that offers a decent low-gravity ale, which is nice for the drivers. On our most recent visit our order was taken by an extremely agreeable young woman. And so far, the food we've ordered has always been quite acceptable.

I visted this pub yesterday for a meal. There were 7 of us and we were told to go and find our own table, in the end we had to struggle to put tables together ourselves to make up enough for us all to sit down (with no help from the staff). We got there around 2pm, to be told that there was only Roast Turkey or Pork left, they had sold out of Roast Beef - so that was the first disappointment. A few of us ordered starters, the white bait was fried in breadcrumbs - so this would have done for a main course! The bread board tasted like the bread had been zapped in the microwave before serving, as it was too hot to eat! The Roast Pork dinners were skimped on, the roast potatoes were rock hard and when mentioing this to waitress when collecting our plates, we were told that "it was late in the day", we took this to mean that 3pm is late as the roast dinners were probably cooked at noon! The chicken and ham pie did not have any taste to it, the chicken and bacon pasta was the same. And the seasonal vegetables were carrots and cabbage, not very seasonal! The puddings were pricey but at least they were edible. All in all, I don't think any of our party will bother to go back to this place - apparently the Fox up the road is much better, so will bear this in mind!

I ordered a table for six for a family meal because it was my partners 40th. When I got there they were scrambling around trying to find me a table..that was the first let down. I either think its the manager or owner who is incredibly rude and has a real bad attitude with the face expressions to go with it. He looked at me if I was really stupid, as if I should of known that a hot chocolate doesnt come with a kids meal. He proceeded to fick his eyes upwards and abrutly told me that it doesnt come with that meal ,madam . He then looked very inpatient with me, I didnt want to cause a fuss as it was my partners special day, but my partner immediatly stepped in and told him to cancel the order and told him that he ought to change that jumped up attitude.
We will never go back there even though we are local...I am in bussiness myself and I would never make my customers look stupid. We proceeded to go somewhere else...the swallows inn where we felt so welcome and really enjyed the day in the end.

The food will be poor as its a chain and all comes frozen from a central depot.
The beer is always in good nik, and they have a large selection of bottled real ales, which you dont often see.
Its a large pub, plenty of seating for families and plenty of parking too.
It has a huge fire next to the bar, which I like. The bar staff do seem extremely bored, but can you blame them??
The only major con that frustrates me about this place is the fact they got rid of their pool table.
All in all, a good pub though

Went with family (10 of us) for a meal. It took about an half an hour to get everything ordered as everytime the order was made at the bar they had run out of something. It would have been easier for staff to tell us what they had left.
When food did arrive it was of poor quality. I had the spare ribs and they came out in a bowl, they were luke warm at best and not very tasty. One of the orders never came out at all and had to be asked for again, this resulted in the food arriving when everyone else had eaten.
This is the second time that I have had an average meal in this premises and I will not be trying a third.

Have been a visitor to this pub on a number of occasions previously. I chose to take the parents there over the weekend, on the Saturday instead of Sunday to avoid the hustle bustle of the Mothers Day crowds. Unfortunately, from the off we were subjected to the ever increasing trend of parents letting their children out of control. In this case, in and out frequently through the restaurant, and out the rear door (next to our table) to the garden - often leaving it wide open allowing the March breeze in. This went on every few minutes, much to the annoyance of other customers too, until we asked if we could move to a table the other side, a few metres away. Meanwhile, the childrens parents just a few tables away oblivious to the situation. The waiting staff also had a habit of leaving the door wide open whilst collecting empties from the garden!
Apart from a very well done steak instead of a medium - which went back and was replaced and taken off the bill, to their credit - the food was good. Prices have gone up a few pounds since my last visit and the average meal was about 10+. Good selection of beers and ales if you like that sort of thing.
As this pub welcomes families, and this sort of problem seems on the increase I may or may not go back. I know for sure at least 2 other groups of people in the same sitting definitely won't. We made out concerns known to the manageress, who was quite understanding. Apparently they are going to look into it for a solution so we'll see...
