Attractive old building, and nicely laid out inside, with a comfortable lounge, a basic but cosy bar in the middle, and a restaurant at the other end, all nicely screened off from each other. There were two downsides for me, the intrusive piped music, and the prices, but apart from that I liked the place very much, and for Crawley it is definitely one of the better pubs. Badger beers, I had the Firkin Fox which was very good but unfortunately they served in a pretentious stemmed glass instead of a proper pint glass.

Very nice building in a quiet out of the way part of town, this is a very good point as it means the pub misses out on the normal chav nightmare that is Crawley.

The garden at the front is huge (20+ benches), inside the place is mostly laid out for the restraunt. The bar area is more of a lounge type arrangement with lots of big sofas and newspapers etc. Point to note if you are eating is that the menu is more pub grub than restraunt quality offering.

4 beers on tap including Tangle foot, Badger and Sussex plus some good bottled ciders. The place will get busy with kids during the summer so be aware of this.

I will pop in again if in this part of town, but would not go out of my way to visit.

Intersting point of note is that the place used to be owned by Peter Vaughan aka the "Genial" Harry Grout of Porridge fame.

Visited a couple of times when it first opened to the public, but remember it as very pricey. Nice decor and decorative barmaids, though.

A very nice old timber framed building several hundred years old, the interior is laid out as a series of interconnected rooms or spaces with the bar continuing through most. Now rather incongruously set in the midst of Crawley's New Town sprawl, this could have the feel of an old country inn, but for me it fails. Uniformed staff, chalk boards everywhere advertising this and that, and the emphasis on food detract from that old homely feel, and instead give the appearance of Ye Olde Worlde kitsch.
Hall & Woodhouse beers, Sussex, Badger Best and Fursty Ferret on yesterday.
There is an extensive outdoor area which I guess may be pleasant in summer.

Another pub that used to be great until the old manager got kicked out. Now unless you want to order food then join the long wait.
Whoever thinks the real ale is good in here, needs to get out more

Hall & Woodhouse pub. It is a half timbered building that was a house, owned by Peter Vaugan (Grotty of Porridge) until 2000. `It is a food led pub but it is friendly and sells well kept beer beer.

Unlike most Pubs in Crawley, this has a large outside seating area. As it is at the top of Goffs Park, it makes a great stopping point for an afternoon or evening stroll. The beer is Hall&Woodhouse, and they don't often have guests, but it is well kept. The menu is pretty varied, but don't have very high expectations. The pub used to be home to Peter Ohm, better known as Peter Vaughan - the actor who played Grouty in Porridge. When he was living there, it was just a house, although it had been a Manor before the New Town was built.
