Have not been to this pub in a very long time and found quite a lot has changed - all for the better. My husband and I received a very warm welcome and found the ale to be well kept. We stopped by after visiting friends and decided to stay for dinner - proper well presented pub food and despite a very busy evening we didn't have to wait too long. If we didn't live so far away I'm certain I would lose my husband when the rugby is on!

A little community pub that has suffered in the past from too many changes of landlord but now is recovering back to a great little place to drink. It tends to shut a bit early in the week though if nobodys in (Fair enough!) So don't arrive too late! The meals are good & the Friday fish & chip night gets very busy.

Great atmosphere, friendly welcome and very good beer..what more can be said about this pub?!
Latest tenants have done a really good job in doing the place up from it's dated appearance and have freshened it up with new patio area ( which is great for summer evenings) and new flooring throughout!
Really worth a visit!!!

Just popped into The Brickies. Used to be a favourite place but went downhill over the last few years so have not been by in a while. Great to see its finally getting back to its original great form. New owners/tennants are nice people and they have made lots of improvements in the short time they have been there. You have got to see the new patio area - cant wait for summer bbq's!!!

It feels a bit like deja vous; anyway since my last post on this pub (back in April 09), there have been a few different people running this place.

I nipped in recently to find a new couple, who have taken on the tennancy for three years, so hopefully there will now be stability - and the incentive to invest in the place. Early signs are good; there were two (Hall and Woodhouse) ales on tap - along with a selection of bottled H and W bottled beers. Beer quality was good too.

I overheard them saying that they will be giving the place a lick of (needed) paint in the new year.... early signs are good.

This had another set of new people in around the begining of March.

Following my last review on this pub, the couple who ran it let it go a bit - I don't think that they were sure whether they wanted it to be a traditional boozer or cater for groups of youngsters - the result was that the place lost quite a lot of the old regulars.

Anyway, now to the good news; the new managers are catering to regulars who like good beer and a chat with friendly regulars. The managers seem to be friendly and welcoming and already I have seen a return of many of the old regulars and local families. Ideally the place could do with a lick of paint and new carpets but I appreciate that business will need to be built up again before that - which I am sure that it will be.

I have visited a few times since it has been taken over - the new staff seem very friendly and appear keen to make an effort (which is excellent news after the 'care'-taker manager).

You could easily not know this pub existed as it is hidden away on a back street between the Eastbourne and Lewes roads through Ridgewood. It's definitely worth finding. Although the range of ales is limited, only Badger Bitter and Tanglefoot, it is well kept. I have visited in the evening when it was very busy and on a Sunday lunchtime when it was fairly quiet, but on both occasions the place seemed friendly and the service was good.

Had Christmas lunch at the pub, excellent and plenty of it. Good friendly service. Worth a visit

I ahev been here three times and have a mixed impression; first time we had excellent service and found the pub to have a great friendly atmosphere.
On the second occassion (mid afternoon to be fair) the barmaid was not too friendly. Third occassion whilt rugby was on - a very loud (understandable) crowd with lots of swearing though excellent service / beer.

We will return and try again.

Used to drink here 15 years ago! Whe it was rock music and dirty leathers, best place in the area then.

Alarmed to here it has been done out, it was an institution, hope it still has the same atmosphere?

I have no idea where the comment about the ladies has come from! It has been nicely decorated since Julie & Steve took over and it is always very pleasant as there are often fresh flowers in there which add that little extra touch.

I must drop by to smell the fresh ladies !!!!! ;-)

Great new management who make you feel more than welcome. The new menu has good choice and is made fresh to order. The beer is well kept and reasonable in price, probably the cheapest prices in Town. Look forward to July when the pub will be even better as there will be no smokers inside!

What a Great Pub! So warm and frienly. The beer(sorry, ale) is well kept and to the best it can be. The food is home made and very good, I have eaten there several times and would happily recomend.
A wonderful traditional village pub. Long may it last

Wow - what a difference the new owners have made to this pub, it has gone back to being a decent local where the staff remember your name and what you drink.
Julie and Steve have created a brillant feeling of being back into a community and part of the pub again, something so many pubs lack now.

It is also so good to have lager that is bubbly and not flat so they know how to keep a cellar - I haven't had a bad pint yet but if i did i bet it would be put right as soon as possible.

I have not eaten in here yet but it always looks so good and i have heard that the Roasts are fantastic so hopefully we will try it soon as again where now can you get homemade food.

The pub is always so clean as well, the ladies always smells fresh and is so nicely decorated for a pub.
We have only started going back in "The Brickies" recently and we are so glad we did.

We are really looking forward to the summer so we can sit out on the patio and wonderful garden.

Well done Julie and Steve we hope that you stay being our landlady/lord for many years to come and thank yout for making us feel so welcome

This is a great local pub, it has a strong community feel and has a mixture of young and old, but amazingly everyone gets on!

Football nights are great fun as everyone gathers around the projector screen and throws around some friendly banter, which EVERYONE tends to get involved in!

The bar staff are all really friendly and make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door and the atmosphere is always pleasant.

The Land Lady is always on hand to whip up some yummy food when its needed and her Sunday roast has a fabulous reputation!

There is a quiz night every month, which is a great time for a lot of friends and family to get together in teams and have a really good time.

Special occasions get entertainment through the doors; Easter has karaoke coming to town, which is always good for a laugh! (and humiliation)!

All in all its a great little pub that caters for pretty much anyone and everyone at all times of the year!

Recently taken over by new Licence (October 2006) Pub redecorated with new ventilation, menus etc.

good community pub, very good on football nights with good banter flying back & forth. not too easy to find a place to sit when busy tho (mainly cos it's quite small with screen at end of narrow bar room) so have to find a place where you can see but don't block peoples view. good mix of young & old etc, very friendly atmosphere but terrible ventilation, be prepared for the old days of watering eyes & stinking clothes
smudgethewudge - 10 Mar 2005 12:13
This pub is a perfectly average local, but it's food was tasteless and bland. The soup for example, was heated up from a tin, and I definately wouldn't recommend visiting for a meal. If, however, you want a few games of pool with your mates, it would be fine.
Lucy Pointycat - 19 Oct 2004 16:29
Proper community local. Good atmosphere for live football.
