My notes from the year 2000.......... In the course of our quest for a possible venue to which to move a ready made team of players, we sought out the Black Horse at Hookwood, which had an ideal little room perfect for bar billiards. But instead of using our offered contact, the landlord had had his hands tied by the brewery and - lo and behold - a Leisure table suddenly appeared: a 'Narrow SAMs', difficult to score a thousand on. Within a week the timer had broken, and the table stayed like it with an 'out of order' sign on it for a month. I rather timidly suggested to the landlord that this might be a good excuse to reject the Leisure table and get a 'proper' one. This went down like a lead balloon and on my next visit there was no table at all, and I was informed there was no further likelihood of there ever being one. Obviously such rudeness means that I haven't been back, but the pub must of held a certain charm to tempt us there in the first place, and I do remember they did a good jacket potato lunch at a reasonable price.

I agree with other comments, the landlord is as welcoming as a nest of wasps. very off putting..All pubs are struggling, and if he smiled , it would make a pleasant change. I dont go back anymore....lost my custom due to him

Top pub the food is amazing my mrs was very happy when the staff made us both some free pudding

No longer one of my preferred places due to the screaming kids running round the place most of the time - one of many local pubs being ruined by the pushchair brigade !!

There is no music,tv,dartboard and dogs are not allowed in the pub only in the garden.Food is ok at lunchtime but evening meal portions are on the small side.Landlord and landlady are not at all welcoming.Ok if you want somewhere within walking distance but otherwise there are much more welcoming pubs around.

I always visit between 4pm and 5pm when this pub has a quiet spell (I'm allergic to kids in pubs) and the two lads behind the bar are invariably friendly and efficient. The decor really is an improvement on the old pub, the beer's well kept and, whilst the food is not the cheapest around, the extra money is well spent. Recommended.

A really nice mock country pub I have visited quite a few times. The food is always good for your money and the ales were kept well. The landlord always seems narky and not exactly welcoming which is the only downside. It has a good safe childrens play area in the garden which my godson loved. I have found myself coming here more and more simply as is the best around the area.

Visited this pub on a recent Sunday night following a review in the local paper. Landlord extremely rude and his wife stressed out although there were only three people waiting at the bar. Not particularly well kept ales although the Stinger was passable. Outside seating is beside the busy and noisy A217 yest the car park is situated in a quiet lane. strange pub, much better at the Goffs Manor in Crawley and is owned by the same brewer

This pub is a bit of a find - the inside is lovely with oak beams and floors with flagstones - the ambience is real country pub. My meal was excellent and my wife loved the loos. Good range of Badger ales

no smoking restaurant pub. Good food a little over priced but good food, Go her rather than the Plough at Earlswood for a Sunday roast
