We've been popping in here quite often in recent months. Always very welcoming and with excellent and reasonably priced beer, particularly the Summer Lightning which, in our opinion is the best in the area. It's now been swapped out for Winter Lightning which is also lovely. A worthwhile stop on the A272.

Visited this pub on the Bank Holiday Monday just gone. Nice surrounding countryside, but I'm not a great fan of pubs sat on a main road. The inside reminded me of an opulant Victorian boudoir, with the usual smattering of countryside ephemera, and antique looking items. Being a lower middle class boy, it took a while for me to get used to the local country set, come gentry accents that surrounded us, but the atmosphere was pleasant enough.
I'm not the biggest fan of Greene King pubs, but I did have a nice pint of Morlands Original which was well kept, and as others have noted the food being served did look excellent, but also, to my mind quite overpriced. Overall if you want a nice littel ride into the Hampshire countryside and stop off for a pint this would not be a bad place to stop. I give it a 6.

We visited on a Tuesday lunchtime on a trip from Bristol. The place was very quaint, extremely friendly staff. Polite, professional and welcoming. However after checking the menu we nearly walked out. We are vegetarians and there wasn't a single vegetarian option on the main menu. My husband asked the waitress what he should do and she nipped out to the kitchen and came back with the news that the chef could do us a meal.
That meal was possibly the best veggie meal out we've had in ages. They really are doing themselves a disservice by not having it on the main menu.
Lovely food. Recommended.

My first visit was on a Sunday lunchtime, not always the best time to judge a place. The Saga generation were certainly out in force, but I just qualify for membership so that's OK.

The order was swiftly taken but the food took half an hour to appear. That may be down to a mixture of the Sunday factor, the fact that we didn't have starters and of course the fact (I trust) that it is freshly prepared. The Sunday thing may also explain why some dishes had sold out; they really should have been marked as such on the blackboard menu. There was also no vegetarian main course option. No real complaints, though -- the food was very good indeed and the young people serving at table were efficient, polite and helpful.

There was only one real ale available -- Ruddles, which I find a bit strong for lunchtime. It was in very good shape, but a choice would have been nice.

All in all, a very pleasant pub, which succeeds in serving traditional food in traditional surroundings ... to predominantly traditional people.

We have been eating at The Fox for about 7 years now and visit on special occasions or just when we need a really nice meal. Food is exceptional. Like mentioned before, a bit Olde Worlde, but this isn't a bad thing by any means. We are always well looked after. Definately worth a visit especially for their outstanding food and selection of wines. ALthough it is not a cheap meal, it is worth paying the extra.

They try ever so hard. Good selection of beers for a Greene King pub. Food exceptionally good.

Olde Worlde interior but clean. Clients primarily there for the excellent (sea) food, and tending towards the Saga market. Normally a well kept real ale such as Ruddles County is available.
