I went in here a few years ago and it seemed an odd place, a crowd of old men round the bar and the rest of the pub empty. Very strange atmosphere. What a change on my recent April early evening visit! This is now a thriving pub with dining, and offers 6 pumps up to real ale. 3 were from Thwaites, also available Storm In A Pint Pot by Salamander, Sir Philip by Wincle Beer Company, and Pride of Pendle by Moorehouse's. I think I went for the Salamander offering and it was very pleasant. I would happily return to this pub at some point.

I only get in this pub at weekends when it seems friendly enough to me and my chums. We visited today and found the staff to be reasonably welcoming and helpful. The first beer I ordered (Shepherd Neame Whitstable Bay) was not at all to my liking: couldn't put my finger on why but it had a very sour taste to it. The barmaid was quite happy to change it though. Other beers (Beartown Kodiak Gold and Storm Bosley Cloud) were much more palatable though not in the very best condition. We enjoyed the carvery, which had a decent range of vegetables as well as roast meats. I think the pub has been refurbished recently: carpet and chairs look quite new. But the best thing about the place is definitely the location, with views out over the canal and the fields to Winter Hill, some 17 miles away.

Strange kind of canteen looking place, quite rude barmaid and funny looks from the local knuckle dragging regulars. Not the cleanest and IMO completely undeserving of its good reputation.

Not sure what the problem is with punters below. Thought it was a friendly pub and the 7 ales were excellent - we tried 6 different ones and 2 of them were from local breweries (Phoenix and Coach & Horses). Nice beer garden and views over/along the canal. Serves food, but did not try - looks like it could be busy with canal boat users in summer - quiet when we were there. Well worth a visit for beer alone though.

Doesn't even look like a pub, more like a home for the bewildered. Great location but absolutely NO atmosphere. Weird

Although this seems to be a local CAMRA favourite it is a totally characterless modern pub that (as others have said) appears to be dominated by regulars. In my experience the beer leaves something to be desired as well.

Ok if you dont mind standing up for 3 hours as you will never get a table. Make sure that when getting the drinks in you time it when the locals who barracade the bar have got there drinks in or the barstaff will totally ignore you no matter how long you have been waiting until every one of them have been served !

Had a pleasant meal on a Sunday afternoon here. Beer was fine- the local Cheshire IPA from Dunham Massey. There were a few others to choose from. Food was decent and wasn't a bad portion either, and the views are fantastic, it was great to sit beneath the willow by the canal watching the narrowboats and wildlife. Didn't see any of the undesirables that the last review mentioned, perhaps they visited at a bad time? Most tables seemed to be reserved, so they must be doing something right. Only gripe wold be that the service wasn't lightning-fast but it was quite busy. Would certainly return.

Hmm..sometimes voted best pub in Lymm but hard to see why. Last visit and the place stopped dead when a mate & I walked in (non-regular-possible-copper reaction from the 'residents'). Even the circumferentially challenged karaoke lass missed a high note. Oddly cliquey place, average ale but nice views over the canal. Suspect most of the 'locals' are from the nearest 'overspill' where all the pubs have been closed over the years due to violence and alternative medicine sales.

I've been to a bikers pub but never a narrow boaters pub before.
Nice pint of Adnams. Arrived at 12noon on a sunday and couldn't get a table for food until 6pm. Far to many old people (by old i mean those who look like they fought at Agincourt) sitting in the same seat every chuffin week. Why are so many pubs dominated by this clique of rude OAP's. This pub looks like and is a day care centre for the twilight brigade.

Have been going to the Barn Own for quite a few years now and has at most times been a good nite.
Can take a while to get served if the regulars get sat around the bar and wont move to let any of us town folk in !
Has been taken over quite a bit with food / meals so can be difficult to get a table unless you reserve one beforehand like I do for a meal and then order a plate of chips !

Food great and good value for money. Beer selection average really. One guest ale then Marstons Pedigree and Adnams. Lovely situation. Live music was certainly live but as to whether it counts as music ?! Still the regulars seemed to enjoy it. Then they enjoyed some bloke getting up and singing "Hi Ho Silver Lining".A bit disappointed if I'm honest, it promised so much ! Oh yes and the barmaids fancy themselves a bit as well. Can't imagine why.
