Very busy when me and a friend visited at lunch time on 1st December, but we got served straight away.
It's now an Abbey Ales pub so I went for a pint of their Bellringer Maximus (slightly stronger than normal Bellringer at 5% abv) while my friend had a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord. It came to about £6.60 for both pints which isn't cheap, but then neither are most pubs in Bath cheap these days.
We perched on some stools by the window next to the entrance and watched two groups of people walk in, say "oh no, they're showing the football!", do an about turn and then walk out. Me and my friend both found this bizarre because they were showing a Bath Rugby match on the TV !

Recently refurbished, still awful but now just more expensive. Great!

Refurbished since my previous review, this now has a slightly more contemporary feel but nonetheless is still very much a traditional pub. It�s split in to three areas and there are usually a few tables and chairs on the pavement outside which is a pleasant enough spot overlooking the square.
The front area of the pub houses the bar counter, and two areas at the rear are given over to a pool table on the upper level and next to this a more traditional room with the air of an old drawing room thanks to it�s dark wooden bookshelves, flock wallpaper and old fireplace. Flooring is a mixture of light wood at the front and tartan carpet whilst the walls are a mixture of cream paintwork with khaki green painted wood panelling below. A number of old local photo�s were on the walls.
There were a couple of plasmas around, one next to the pool table which was fair enough, but the one in the �drawing room� seemed a little out of place. They were playing a music channel, and whilst the volume at the front of the pub was quite reasonable, we initially made the mistake of sitting right under one as this was the only free table. This was far too loud, especially considering there was a nappy advert on at the time which wasn�t really conducive to me drinking my pint.
The two beers on tap were both from Abbey Ales with their Bellringer and White Friar. There was a third pump for Doom Bar but this appeared to have run out. The solitary cider was Thatcher�s Gold.

Decent enough boozer with a friendly landlord. Essentialy just one bar, but with a raised area conatining a pool table and darts board. Traditional pub interior with wood/glass shelving above the bar. Lots of flags hanging from the ceiling. Doesn't appear to be much in the way of food although they do offer all day pizza's.
Spitfire and Butcombe Gold on tap, plus Blackthorn and Addlestone's cider.

Pleasant place with a couple of well-kept session ales on tap.

Expensive at �3.20 for a pint of Guiness and �2.90 for the guest ales. Go to Wetherspoons across the road!

Perfectly acceptable boozer that serves a decent pint.
That said, I generally go elsewhere.

Just won South West Community pub of the Year... Worth a good mark for that surely!

Visit a few times and it will become a favourite! If you want to have a local in the centre of town it is great - never so busy you can't sit down. Tables outside in the summer, which is rare in Bath. Tricky, because I've been going there on and off for 12 years, and it feels like home!

Nothing special, right in the centre but doesnt make the most of it. Trundle on down to Hobgoblin and have a proper drink.

Bog Standard boozer in one of the less actrative areas of Bath.
It's OK, but there is far better to be had.
