it is open again and probably regained the best pub in Oban epithet. A touristy kind of place overlooking the harbour with a 'history dating back to 1790' they served a range of Fyne ales which were in reasonable nic'.

STILL CLOSED! still has a christmas tree in the window from about 5 years ago? inside must be rotted. sad, this was once the best pub in oban.
|
Still closed but shutters have been removed.

a recent visit to Oban confirmed this pub is now closed and boarded up. This was a fine example of a traditional seaport bar. I can only hope it will returned to its former state at some point.

Always visit when on holiday in Oban, but was disappointed in the beer quality this time. It seems that when nearing the bottom of the barrel the staff move it to let more beer through leaving it cloudy and not too pleasant to drink. Shame. It is a nice pub in good location though.

Did not have much time in Oban so went on the recommendations. Was not disappointed, nice pub, good beer. What more would you want.

called on a recent visit, Dec 07. upstairs was closed that evening. downstairs is a single room basic bar with characterful timbered floors walls & seating. slightly nautical style. pleasant staff.
two regional casks were on offer. plenty of whiskies for those inclined. [including me!].

Fine traditional pub in the centre of Oban on the sea front road. Pub dates back to 1790. The downstairs bar has bare floorboards and black beams, but with music at a volume that this poster considered excessive. Note the extensive banknte collection
Upstairs is a more comfortable carpeted bar that effectively acts as a restaurant serving good honest traditional pub food at reasonable prices and in generous portions to those visitors who throng Oban in summer.
My pint of Loch Fyne Highlander at 2.35 was an excellent pint - tasted like Adnams Broadside.
This would appear to be the best all round pub in Oban

Happy memories of this pub. Always cosy, always friendly. And near the chippy which does the best fish supper in the whole of Scotland.

My most favourite pub ever! Fond memories, whether it's seeing in New Years.... being stranded in a power cut in the winter storms, or just hanging out with friends. Downstairs bar has a very different vibe to the upstairs.
Downstairs - nautical regalia everywhere, stone floors, wooden benches. Generally bikers and fishermen. Occasionally divers.
Upstairs - carpet (!), stain-glass windows, spacious seating areas.
Generally it's full of locals but the tourists explode in the area over summer so you're bound to meet some of them too.

I visited this pub recently and found it to be a friendly establishment with a good selection of beer and real ale. The food was excellent, but beware the Ben Nevis burger. This is not for the faint hearted, you have been warned. All in all a good traditional pub with plenty of character.

Decent, busy downstairs public bar. Good ale. Seems to attract mostly grown ups.

Have visited this pub on and off for over 20 years. The downstairs bar is small and traditional, always busy. Upstairs lounge serves decent food.
