Nice Harvey’s pub in an old building, with a few of their cask ales + bottles. Had an okay meal of gammon and eggs.

Had the dubious pleasure of spending 3 days in Crawley recently.Only real pub left on the High Street.Stuck to a couple of pints of Harvey's IPA each evening. Not unpleasant and compared to the general run of Crawley pubs the pub is fine.
|
I don't visit this pub very often but the last visit and last night had a dodgy pint with the associated unpleasant side effects. The bar reeked of sterilising fluid so no doubt they were making an effort to keep the place clean, I think they're just a bit rubbish at looking after the ales.

Harvey's are a great brewery and from the only visit I had to the White Hart I wasn't dissapointed. Not top notch but satisfactory and pleasant enough atmosphere and service and format of pub that I would return. A friend uses this as his local so it won't be that far off the mark.

Beer quality Ok but not great. The largest collection of old men I've ever seen.
|
I visit the pub on a reasonably regular basis, say 2 or 3 times a month. The beer quality can be a little bit hit and miss, but if one is on the turn the staff will change it.
However, don't expect a smile from many of the bar maids, one or two struggle with the please and thank you part too!

I thought I'd post a review as the last one was 18 months ago. Came in here on a early on a Friday night a little while ago having never been here before.
It's not a typical Harveys pub at all. It definitely has a town centre feel to it, but aimed at older drinkers not the kids. Most of the beer was your typical larger (Fosters, Carling, Kronenbourg) with the standard Strongbow alongside. To be honest, I think pretty much everybody was drinking larger in here.
The ale was Harveys Best with two seasonals on: Old Ale and South Down Harvest. The Harveys was OK and the South Down was a first for me: quite interesting and a bit tangy. (There might have been one other ale on - didn't stay long enough to check.)
The pub is quite big with lots of chairs and tables and even some music playing. The staff seemed OK. I imagine it can get busier later on in the evening and maybe on a Saturday. I don't know what add really. I suppose it's just a bit underwhelming particularly if you expect that something special that you usually find in a Harveys pub. The place felt much more like a managed pub from one of the large chains. Harmless I suppose, but... well, there you are.

Harvey's are a great brewery but the White Hart does absolutely nothing to enhance their great reputation. As ex-bar staff I know the 'cask' ales are not well kept. It would be good that Harvey's buy a pub away from the town centre with a landlord who knows how to keep real ale.
|
A Harvey's pub, probably the last one in Crawley to sell cask mild on a regular basis.I visited last month, mild was fine and a very busy Saturday afternoon.
|
the Irish gaffer was friendly enough to us but the beer quality is poor. Old ale on the pump clip but the beer not available. The Harveys Kiss seasonal was vinegary so needed to be replaced with a best bitter that was drinkable but below-par. Didn't dare risk trying the mild!

My English Husband wanted to visit this pub as he likes Harveys. What a dissappointment, it was more like an Irish sports bar. The first pint was not very nice so we asked to change it. The Irish manager was really horrible to us and we had to argue with him to have a replacement drink of another beer. This also was not to standard so we left the bar without finishing our drinks. This is one of the most bad pubs I have been to in England and they seriously need to look at their service and attitude towards customers.
|
Was persuaded to give this place another go by my brother. I should not have listened. Even if you like Harveys, and I never have, you surely have to admit what they serve in here is not good. Even the Green King IPA, a usually sour and weak beer, in the Shades is better!
The evening was rounded off nicely by two old blokes at the end of the bar telling me so aggressively why the landlord was a **** that I thought they were going to start on me.
|
Beer okay, food okay, bar staff okay but really rude bully boy Irish manager who treats his staff appallingly. Went in just after Xmas and witnessed a member of staff walk out after he continually picked on her for no reason. He creates a really nasty atmosphere so we won't be going back.

Fantastic pub, best in town centre. Warm welcome, great bar staff and really polite regulars. Great food especially Sunday lunch which us great value. One pub I have walked into as a stranger and left as a friend. So worth a visit.
|
Not a bad town pub, Harveys ales in good condition. This place used to be very smoky but a great improvement now but not all seem to think so as a blackboard over the bar laments the smoking ban as a piece of British life lost! The usual pub range of food available.
|
Best pub in Crawley town centre. Best beer and great atmosphere. Regulars will move aside if asked politely. Really good food but unfortunately limited service on a weekend.

I rember this pub from the early sixties. It's clock was always fast.So we used to get half cut here and then go across to the George to finish the night off
|
Not a bad pub at all. A good selection fo beers anf friendly bar staff. Very busy and lively at the weekends and often plays host to live music. Can be a problem getting to the bar through the blockade of regulars, but is generally worth the effort.
|
Best Pub in Town,great Atmosphere,Friendly Staff,Good Beer,No Chav Scum.Great Place.
|
This place was busy last night but I still got served very quickly each time I went to the bar, once I'd made it past the line of locals who stand at the bar and make no effort whatsoever to let you through. Quality Harveys beers. I had 3 pints of Hadlow which were very good and two pints of Olympia which were superb. Best and Harvest were also available. Harveys very rarely disappoint and this place is no exception. It's just a shame that it's in Crawley.
|
what a blinding pub ! excellent friendly service in an easy going relaxed atmosphere unlike the other drinking holes that litter the High Street. only 2 gripes; cliff the barman supports manure utd and the annoying pissed up postmen who yo-yo all day between the boozer and the bookies,(one of which ,called 'g' had a wind problem) those lads finish too early!
|
This was my second post of call after The George on my Crawley venture. Was almost run over by a cab driver outside but, he grinned so I thought I would too.
The pub was split into a crowded bar and a slightly less cramped snug where I positioned my party next to 2 ambitious, mature ladies.
The pub was quite fun and reminded me of the pubs of my youth in Plymouth. It was atmospheric and there was no hint of pretension about it. Well worth a punt I reckon.
p.s. I had a rosy glow by the time I got here - can't be held responsible for any erroneous reviews

Great pub - A bit of an old mans pub, but the staff are friendly, and you can usually get a seat. Good meeting place for a couple of decent quiet pints on a Friday/Saturday night before heading on to the busier younger pubs.
|
I agree with the previous commentator; the bitter here can be good, but on my last couple of visits, has been "winey". I have previously enjoyed the non-threatening atmosphere of the saloon bar on a Sturday lunchtime, crowded with unpretentious locals, but on the last two visits, there were unfortunately, a couple of dart shirt attired eyeballers, who obviously resented our presence in "their manor". Retreated to the public bar, which was full of smoke and some truly "types you wouldnt want to cross" in England football gear with fearful Madgwick haircuts, but otherwise OK. On reflection, I won't be going again!
|
Harvey's has never been a particularly good beer, and this place rarely sells even good Harvey's, although it is never cloudy. On the other hand it has character, and characters, the food is good, and the real ale in the rest of Crawley's town centre pubs range from the sour to the vile. How can a town the size of Crawley not have one pub in the centre selling consistantly good beer?
|
Don't mess with Pat! Don't ever mess with Pat!
Part Irish part chav pub right in the centre of town. Seems to have become almost trendy for the fact it's a real pub in recent years.
Pool table as well, and incredibly slippery toilet floors.
Beer garden, uninspiring, but the place has a charm all of its own.
|
Great for English to be insulted by Irish. If that's your thing.
|
The White hart is awsome and has great bitters. I worked there for a while and there were always young people coming in for a pint. But yeah on the whole it could be thought of as an older person pub. It's a great pub for food and a beer though.

It's got two bars, and the left hand one is a bit more comfy.Beer quality varies, it can be yeasty. The Winter Ale is delicious!

Never has been really a true Irish pub, but at least its one pub you can still find Harvey's beers.

Irish my arse. I popped in there to see the Ireland vs Albania and they had the bloody rugby on. I won't be going back there again.
|
I would have to kind of agree with Dr Howard on this matter, this pub is definately for the older generation of Crawley. Although saying that I have to admit that I do know of some younger men that do like to hang out in this pub quite alot, but to be fair maybe it's because they feel more comfortable with people that are 50 years older than them?! Whatever takes your fancy ai!

This pub is a great place to hang out and meet some cool people. The only pub in the area I know of that does not have bounces ( or needs them for that matter) , it just doesn't attract filth. Good pub food as well.

Once the gay pub of Crawley, the White Hart now exudes a stale tattiness which efficiently deters all but the regulars.
