Still selling well-kept Everard's ales and still very busy despite the opening of the horribly-named Cosy Club in the old Post Office sorting office next door and the reopening of the extended London Inn across the way. Wetherspoons indeed will also be opening across the road in a week or so, so the future will be challenging.

One of my favourite watering holes, just hope the new leaseholders can keep the place going; there’s a lot of competition in the area from other Pubs. Plus there is talk of a Wetherspoons opening up across the street in the old Stamford Mercury offices!

A very friendly atmosphere and a pleasant place for a pub lunch; there's even a separate dining area if you don't want to want TV while you eat. Food is good quality pub grub, there is a decent selection of local beers and the staff are friendly.

Busy pub with good well-kept Everards beers on offer. Outside tables in the recently-repaved area keep the road traffic at a distance. Also outside is a modern stone sculpture based on the Eleanor Cross (last existing stone of the original can be seen in the town museum): very nice if you like that kind of thing.

Close to the bus station is the Golden Fleece, an Everards pub and the last one we visited on this crawl. It was a clean tidy pub, and we had Everards Flourish. Football was on TV here, but what we liked was the TV was at one end of the bar area, there was another area that was quieter, and a raised seating area at the back where we sat that was a peaceful oasis. I did let the chap behind the bar how good it was to find a pub catering for both those who wanted the football and those who didnt. As we left, I saw there were 2 TVs next to each other, and the boat race was on the second one!

I love this pub. I have even forgiven them for taking the Stella out in favour of the Kronenbourg. Usually the first port of call on a Friday night for us.

I have only been to this pub on a Thursday night when it is very busy. The kareoke is hilarious, some people take it seriously, some don't. It can get very crowded though. Beer is ok and reasonably priced, they do a nice pint of Everards Tiger in here. Recommended.
